Maggie hadn't told her family that she was pregnant yet. That was the reason why she had gone over to her aunt and uncle's house, to run it past them before she told her father. She knew Fred would be happy to be a grandparent, but she wasn't sure how he was going to react and Lucille was like a mother to her, so she felt comfortable telling her first.
Before she could tell them anything, however, Maggie's stomach stopped her from doing so and she was stuck in the bathroom for a half hour before Lucille started to catch on. Her and Marty had been going out for nearly three years and they had been talking about having kids. She also knew that a healthy person didn't spend a half hour in the bathroom before breakfast was even served. So she walked to the bathroom and softly knocked.
"Maggie, sweetheart," she said as she opened the unlocked door. "Are you okay?" she asked. Maggie was sitting against the wall next to the toilet and she just looked up at her aunt.
"I will be," she replied. Lucille closed the door behind her and walked over to Maggie, sitting down right next to her. When she was comfortably leaning against the wall like Maggie was, she pulled the younger woman in for a side hug. Maggie just rested her head against her aunt's shoulder.
"How far along are you?" she asked. Maggie's head flew up instantly, surprised that Lucille had caught on so quickly.
"About six weeks," Maggie replied and then rested her head back against Lucille's shoulder. "How'd you know?" she asked. Lucille had the worst morning sickness when she was pregnant with Jacob. She could remember feeling nauseous all day and she knew the signs all too well.
"I have been pregnant before," Lucille pointed out as she laughed. "And you're like a daughter to me, I know you a little better then that," she added. Maggie also laughed and relaxed into her aunt's body, hoping that morning's bout of morning sickness was over. "Have you told Marty?" Lucille asked. She knew that pregnancy was a big thing to spring on a significant other.
"Yeah, he took it pretty well," Maggie replied. "That's why I came over this morning, to tell you and Uncle Henry." She saw them as second parents and she could always trust them with anything.
"And your dad?" Lucille asked. Maggie stayed quiet, which answered Lucille's questions. "You need to tell him, sweetie. He'll be so happy," she said as she looked down at her niece, who had shut her eyes. Just the mere thought of telling her father freaked her out. It was almost as if her body knew that they where talking about telling Fred about the pregnancy because she instantly started to feel sick. She moved from Lucille's embrace so she was sitting over the toilet. Lucille moved to her knees and she took Maggie's hair and held it so it wouldn't get in the cross fire of puke. That's when Maggie puked again. When it was all over, she moved so she was resting against the wall. Lucille grabbed a hand towel, handed it to Maggie and also sat against the wall as well. Maggie went back to leaning her body against Lucille's.
"This isn't fun, Auntie Lucille," she said softly. "How do I get it to stop?" she asked. She knew that was a stupid question, especially considering she was a doctor, but in the presence of the woman that was like her mother, she couldn't help it.
"I know it is, sweetie," Lucille said softly as she kissed the side of Maggie's head. "It'll stop in a few weeks," she added. She was one of the lucky women that didn't have morning sickness through out her pregnancy. Maggie closed her eyes and again relaxed in her aunt's embrace. After a few minutes of silence, Lucille looked down at Maggie and figured she would be okay to lie down now that the worst of the morning sickness seemed to be over. "Do you think you can get up and get to a bed?" she asked softly. Maggie lazily opened her eyes. She nodded her head in affirmation.
"Yeah, I think so," she said softly. Lucille got up first and then helped her niece up. The two of them walked out of the bathroom and into the guest bedroom where Maggie use to sleep in when she would spend the night. She crawled into bed and under the covers. Lucille pulled the up over her shoulders and then sat on the edge of the bed.
"Do you need anything, sweetie?" she asked as she moved a strand of hair away from Maggie's face. That's when Henry walked into the room. He wasn't sure where his wife and niece had gone and he was worried about them. He just leaned against the doorframe and watched the two of them interact.
"No, I think I'll be fine," Maggie replied as she smiled up at her aunt appreciatively. "Thank you," she added. Lucille leaned over, kissed Maggie's head and then turned out, immediately noticing her husband. She smiled at him as she walked over to him. When she was out of the room, she closed the door behind her.
"Is she okay?" Henry asked, a bit worriedly.
"Yeah, she's fine," Lucille, a bit too happily. Henry was confused at why she would be happy that Maggie was feeling sick. "She's pregnant," she added when she realized that Henry was looking at her in a confused manner. Henry's jaw dropped in surprise and then he smiled.
"Really?" he asked, happiness evident in both his voice and on his face. Lucille nodded her head, stood up on her tippy toes and kissed her husband happily. "That means we're going to have a grand nephew or niece," he said when he kissed his wife back. Lucille laughed at how excited Henry was.
"I know," Lucille said. She was excited Henry was just as excited as she was. "Now lets go downstairs, I don't want to make too much noise," she said as she indicated the door they where standing in front of. Henry nodded his head in agreement, grabbed Lucille's hand and led her downstairs and the two of them went about their day like normal.
