Cosmo Memory
When I was born, the first thing you said
was "Look at this child so bright and red."
You smiled at me with such pride and awe
and I was proud to call you grandpa.
When the humans saw me, I was scared
Because of their contempt, I thought no one cared.
You told me that I would be alright,
Until that one event that fateful night.
All of a sudden from out of nowhere
the tribe of Gi attacked, bringing pain and despair.
When my father left, I thought he was a coward
who left me and my mother overpowered.
After that time of sorrow and grief,
contrary to my hope and belief,
only more hardship and strife
was soon to enter my life.
The soldiers from the Midgar city
took me away with absolutely no pity.
As I was forced into the car, the first thing I saw
was a huge sign with the word "Shinra".
During the time that I was their experiment,
unfortunately then I truly did lament,
that I had lost all hope of ever being treated the same
as everyone else, until they came.
You always believed that I would be okay.
No matter how hard things got, you would always say,
"You have nothing to fear my child, you won't be alone when your journey ends"
And you were right grandfather, for indeed I did make some truly great friends.
Cloud, with his sword, there's nothing he can't cut through.
Aeris, so bright, so beautiful, so noble, and so true.
Tifa, her fists are strong enough to break through granite.
Barret, brave defender of his daughter and his planet.
Yuffie, so playful and proud.
Cait Sith, so confident and loud.
Vincent, the soldier with the painful past.
Cid, the pilot who's experience is vast.
When we found the cave of Gi Nattak
after we were through and headed back,
you showed me something that I didn't know,
that my father truly saved us and was a hero.
During our confusion with the huge materia,
despite all the chaos and hysteria,
you told us that the world was something we could save,
because of our bond with Aeris, and the life she gave.
Now as I approach you for the final time,
I feel in my heart the pain start to climb.
As I walk away with my Limited Moon,
I still feel that this time has come all too soon.
As we enter the crater during this darkest hour,
I can feel Sephiroth's enormous power.
I don't know what will happen, I'm in such pain
but I promised I wouldn't let your death be in vain.
With Sephiroth's defeat, Holy has can now arrive.
Now you can rest knowing the planet will survive.
As I run with my grandchildren now, I look to the sky and then
I see your smile and think to myself, "Good bye grandfather, until we meet again."
Rest in peace grandfather. (1924-2005)
Well, what did you think? This was my first attempt at poetry, and I dedicated to my grandfather who unfortunately died last December. I wrote it through Red VIII's point-of view because he experienced what it was like to lose his grandfather as well. Please read and review, I would really appreciate it.
