Overseer
Hadrien made his way through his territory. His property by the right of law. He nodded to every man, woman, and being that bowed his way. He was a man of acknowledgement here and no being was to walk past without some form of communication to him these days. For this, he was respected even outside his property. Harry knew better than to ignore any body like he would have in his younger years. Before now though, he had no scars on his face and no hidden limp to disguise in favor of power.
His face wasn't hideous. Well in fact it was. When time had passed in the hunt for horocrux, the only way to kill the one in his head was to burn himself with a deadly fire that had left ghastly burn scars on the side of one face that seemed to bleed in controllable lines much like his hair. Then in battle a well placed cutting curse to the back of his leg severed painfully through tendons and nerves and even made a near fatal bleed out. His leg was never to be the same with the permanent mark of two twisted ying yang like reminders. It was healed despite the scars but the Dark magic had battled with his grey magic often. Then when he had not done a purging ritual, his magical 'veins' in his leg became damaged. This causes him to have building pain whenever excessive magic is used. During days he knew magic was to be used, pain potions and a specialized knee brace was used to make sure the pain was at bay and that his knee would not lock up or seize mid stride. This meant wearing the damn thing almost everyday. He was a sorcerer after all.
He walked with just a slight pause that announced to everyone he was not pain free today despite it just barely being noon. Many would, unknowingly to Hadrien, give empathic looks. Many themselves had their own scars and throbs, even limbs that no longer were there. This town was made of survivors of the civil war that had ensued just after the Battle of Hogwarts. The very war that added to the canvas of reminders on their bodies and even the one across their Baron Hadrien's face. It also included on peculiar bite on his neck underneath his scars that had carved canyons and indents in his skin.
"My Baron, the Ministry of the Light has requested a full Council meeting today." His assistant Panthora 'Pansy' Parkinson informed him. She was a woman of pure power. He even trembled under her reign when she was in that mood. Her hair buzzed in that back and long in the front in a diagonal cut while she wore tiny squared glasses charmed to allow her to read three times as much and allow her to retain it in a healthy manner. Her muggle inspired suit paired along dragonhide flats made sure to make an effect as she floated various files and parchment around her. He raised an eyebrow.
"What ever for?" His deepened voice had a sLight tremble that had become habit as making his voice any less booming made his voice break and weak. Much like going through puberty again. So he tended to speak less in a desire not to frighten his people.
"They have a few new families and children wish to Cross as a result of the Test, My Liege."
She spoke of a test that was administered as soon as children entered Hogwarts. It measured their placement as a Dark magic, Grey magic, or Light magic user. The War of Times, as they call it, had ensured that no Light should lord over anything Dark and no Dark should lord over anything Light but Grey should measure and check both while both check Grey. A weird sense of balance had been made and Harry Potter-Black, who was found to be Grey after years and years of struggling with Light, was chosen to reign over Grey and monitor the other two until such a time he could step down. He then gained various Lordships due to conquest rights and had to manage those estates as well as 'his People' as Pansy affectionately called them. They in return teased him with "my Baron". Even the people that work for him or under him tended to stick with "my Liege." He accepted it with a sigh at the time but had grown attached to such respect over time. It had taken various people to convince him that he was worth such esteem.
"Is that it? Leo can manage it."
"You know Leo, as a werewolf, is still disdained by the Light. Also they wish to talk about finally accepting the Light beings we refugee as part of their society. Apparently their little election was in favor of it by a landslide."
"Hmph" He sniffed. He knew that without Light beings the magic would have no balance and the effects would be evident and convincing.
"They are also wondering when the dark will leave our 'society' as they put it."
"Hmm" A growl rumbled.
"Yeah. I know."
The Light was concerned that dark and Grey would work together to overthrow the Light. The wars had cause such a dip in population that the dark and Grey together made up two thirds of their total 'Light society'. As such they had chosen to live together tighter than ever. The Light was just sad that they weren't invited.
"As soon as Hitler has tea with the Jewish, Gypsy, un-heterosexual, and traitors to the Nazi cause." His rumbling chest released the guttural words. He had a grudge with Fudge, whom for some reason, managed to gain office again when Kingsley had declared himself Grey despite his greater Light magical core. Hadrien would too if he had to deal with the Light too long.
"So that will be in an hour. Just enough time for you to visit Severus for some tea." The demonic woman chimed. He wouldn't complain though. Severus always had a habit of calming him before such events. As such he walked faster and allowed his dark Grey robe to flair. Pansy easily sped up after two and a half years of service.
"Shrieking Shack" His throat grated. To be allowed in Severus's home he had to use his normal voice and the passcode. Pansy simply touched his hand briefly as he flinched noticeably at his destroyed voice. It had been a ficus if his self esteem issues.
"Enter, Hadrien." Was the equally terrible voice. Nagini had almost completely destroyed the man's vocal cords but behold Fawkes had taken to the man in time to bond with the man just in time.
Sadly, Arthur had been murdered in that moment as well. Ron had sided with the Light after that event during the War of Time. Only recently Lightening up. His child Rose had come out to be a child of Grey. She was the only child of the now gone Hermione. She had been the last victim of Greyback.
Despite having been recently bitten by a werepanther, he had made the final and bloody kill of the murderer. Then he had remained conscious to signed the Treaty of Time and passed out. Only to awake later as Baron Hadrien of the Grey and Overseer of the Dark and Light. Not that the Light lets him oversee them. The younger generations was learning to, having been taught by people he had chosen. A major attribute of being in the reformed Hogwarts.
"Coming in with Pansy." He boomed regularly.
"Very well" was the undisguised voice.
Severus Tobias Snape resided in his armchair with a chess set out and smoking tea set before the roaring fire.
"Come sit before you have to face those stubborn fools. It almost as if they have not realize that they lost the war and not us," The man sniffed. His scars greatly reduced by the very Phoenix perched at the back of his chair. A devastating blow to the Light when they found out.
"Hmm." He simply said as he sat and made his first move on the wooden non magical chess set that had been among their tea meetings since the Battle. Pansy simply took up the desk in the corner that had been placed for her and finished her work. It just showed up one day after Severus noticed her working on the coffee table. They all knew he had bought it. She would finish everything soon and she would be able to assist when they arrive at the meeting.
"Draco is returning from his stay in France. Lucius has found the last roaming wolves by India. Luna is in Japan chasing some inane creature." Severus informed every bit with every move. He had taken it on himself to track everyone of their 'inner circle' since the war. The same group that had stuck together and been the intelligence and strategic mind during war. "Ginerva is in the States as she gains audience with the President soon in hopes of setting up another non-Light district as well as a hub for all to meet. This will allow people to return to their home territory. Guards will have to go of course. Charlie has joined her, his new reserve project has been approved and the funding given. Bill and Fleur have the Veela Nation agreeing to mingle among the people to reintegrate into the new 'society', as the Light puts it. The Light Veela are debating if the Light is safe enough but do agree to joining outings with their counterparts. Seamus and Dean are returning soon and are said to be expecting a little one." Severus allowed a small smile to bloom on his face. The man wouldn't say it but he was a sucker for romance and infants. Children on the other hand.
"Blaise?" Hadrien asked softly. Hiding the desperate desire from everyone but the person who knew him best. He adjusted his coal vest sLightly and it gave him away as he glared half-heartedly at the humorous sneer before him.
"Your little 'fiance' is on his way. He should arrive at the Ministry of the Light to greet you." Severus sighed exaggeratedly as he made his move to capture his rook. The man never went easy on him.
"I am allowed to worry for my be-throned and consort."
Hadrien justified. In an attempt to control him, the Light managed to have him be-throned to someone they swore was very dark in an attempt to have crawling him back to them. They had chosen the only unmarried and willing participant, Blaise Entronian Zabini, the current Lord and holder of the Zabini House and Lord via Conquest of the McClair House and Name. Blaise had participated in the War of Time, after having survived forced marking in the last war. He then became the Dark respected conductor of their little underground railroad for those finding no way out of the Light controlled area. He had made a name for being ruthless to those who harmed the innocent. Magically binding, they had accepted it and had begun to date despite already being married by law and been forced to consummate. They had recently decided that something must happen and were hoping for a different outcome.
"Checkmate."
"How the bloody hell did you do that?" Harry growled without feeling threatened. Severus simply chuckled at his antics.
"Constant Vigilance, My Liege. Constant Vigilance."
Hadrien caught himself as the floo propelled him forward. Something never change and others you wish you could. As one of the highest, if not the highest, ranking individuals in the room, it would not do to make it one the floor, kneeling before everyone.
"Stupid biased floos." He muttered angrily, with a single crack mid sentence, as he flicked his hand to rid himself of the clingy ash as he tried to ignore the overly throb of his knee, the black magic had slowly leaked into his core but it still left something to be desired. He then straighten out his coal colored vest and midnight black sleeves with his fiance's birthday gift, cuffs with his personal stamp that stated who he was, as far as representing his Rank. It held the Deathly Hallows symbol in a shield with the Motto "Death has no favors and gives no favors". He had created it after it was found that Peverell had no shield of its own being so old. His darkened Grey slacks elongated his legs right into some sLightly undone laced boots made of regular leather. He was not much for fashionable scales on his clothing.
"Husband, what has the floo done to you?" A deep baritone chimed near his ear and Hadrien smiled widely as he turned into the arms of his other half. The very one he had begun to love. A small kiss was bestowed upon his head. This would be the most affection he would receive in public but they had not seen each other for about a month as negotiation had driven them to share letters and gifts.
"The stubborn thing existed. They hate me and that will never change, Husband mine", Harry stated in his loud public voice, said as he kissed the collarbone before him covertly before he was released. He stood back and reclaimed his usual persona. He was only immature around Blaise. Much like the Zabini-McClaire Lord was affectionate and loving with him. No walls existed between them.
Blaise was an attractive man. He had grown out his hair like Lords usually do. Blaise changed it up, even started a trend among the youth with his dreads fro. Due to a electric related curse, most of his none wand hand and the sides of his head had tree root like scars from the dead burnt skin that had to be removed. One eye had no sight unless infused with magic and when it wasn't it went from its beautiful hazel to a smokey Grey, as it was now. Because the scars had damaged his hair particles, he had shaved what was left of both sides of his hair and had small chunked dreads. He wore baggy midnight black cargo pants and opened messily laced combat had on a black t shirt with his usual heavy duel jewelry adorned his sLightly torn ears as well as the ends of his shoulder blade length dreads. He raised a single hand that had on his family rings and kissed his Baron and Lords rings.
It is always honor and tradition over society wants.
"My Liege." He stated as he bowed with his wand hand over his heart.
"Blaise, how goes the situation with your mission." He whispered without making his voice cords activate.
Blaise stood up and resumed his impassive emotions.
"They have decided to agree. They will send word of when the representatives will come to the Council." He said as he presented his elbow for me to hold as he escorted us the heavily guarded Council Arena. Blaise must have noticed something to reveal the pain resonating from his knee. All dark and Grey guards bowing my way as he nodded at them and made my way through.
The arena was literally that. Seats stood all. On the other side, sat on two throne like seat elevated above two smaller seats shifted to the right. Harry was to sit above on the right with Blaise standing beside and below the 'leaders' of the respective sides of society. As they made their way up, Harry waved his hand to change the exaggerated styles to match the seats others sat in. As Blaise went to stand beside. Hadrien huffed and grabbed the man by the collar and sat him in the seat before making a cushion on the arm with enough fluff from him to sit for hours and climbed practically and sat. His second wand holster could be seen from the manner his robe draped off. Blaise immediately had a hand on his waist as he made himself comfortably. An amused exhale of air was all the reaction his beloved gave.
Soon Lucius strolled in, his missing arm's sleeve of his leather robe flapped in a menacing manner behind him as it slung quite comfortable on his shoulder. His heavy boots clicking on the ground. His all black attire hadn't changed if not grown darker since Hadrien's childhood. Lucius held no scars in sight other than the one on his chin. His vanity was still intact from this. Though his wife had not made the war alive, he had struck up a relationship with Luna over the war. Their marriage had been close to eight months ago, one months and a half before the war ended. The man had been much colder before that. Hadrien knew that if it had not been for the fact that Lucius was married, he would have been forced to marry the man. Something that would have taken a longer time to gain love as they both had similar masks and problems. Blaise had a certain way of prying open everything little by little and not ripping it off like a bandaid as Lucius would have done.
The man sat in his usual anger. His wife was not going to be able to make it if that was the air the man brought it. With a wave of his unscarred hand, the chair gained a Dark frightening look that scared the entering Light and made the other two grin at the antics of the man that was by the name of the Knight of the Dark. As this was said, those that had gained their seats all around, turned to face Fudge trying to swagger his way to his simple chair that he overly converted to be such a gold and silver throne and stuck his nose in the air whenever a respectable person bowed in the direction of the Overseer. Lucius snorted and hooked one heel on his knee and slouched as he brought the side of his head to rest on his knuckle. The perfect picture of nonchalance to the self proclaimed Baron of the Light. Then the Arena welcomed its last Knight in, well Dame. Panthora, Pansy, strolled in with a raised eyebrow as her reflective grey cocktail dress hugged her curves. They all knew the woman had at least two wands on her. Her dress held one slit that exposed a beautifully sculpted leg with a trail of runes that gave her strength to run when activated. She had been the best messenger in the war. The runes had allowed her cheetah aminagus to run a quarter of its speed faster. She was more of a figurehead for the grey since he was here. They did it so his word would be more respected but Pansy had the knowledge to know what he wanted to happen and act on it.
Hadrien looked around at the gather representatives. Beings of all kinds were present. During the War, potion warfare was not above the Light apparently. They had thrown potions that forced hidden creature blood to appear. It had led many of the Light, in the crossfire, to switch sides. Lucius had gained his Veela inheritance suddenly on the battlefield. It was a hard to control substance and was outlawed by the Light two weeks after its first usage as it only affected their people negatively.
"Well, lets get this started. I call this meeting into place." The overly cheerful overpowered man to Hadrien's left exclaimed.
"Seconded." Hadrien drawled with his damaged deep croak. He noticed many of the newly instated Lords stare at him. They had assumed Blaise was the Lord or that his voice was deep and gloomy. Hadrien resisted the urge to snort as Lucius did it for him. The man had really lost all respect for the Light and did not bother to have decorum in their presence. Among his people was another story, straight backed, and proper language. He had acknowledgement for everyone. Hadrien swore that if the man had a table before him, he would remove his shoes and put his feet atop just to spite them.
"Yes, Baron Potter. First business of order, we have families to transfer over. Muggleborns of course." Fudge nearly sneered in his tone of his.
Hadrien looked at the back of Pansy's head.
"Bring in the families, Lady-Auror Greengrass." Pansy ordered politely. The head Lady of the Greengrass family wore an eyepatch that had the muggle parents and child flinch. It had been decided that any Dark or grey children would have their whole family, or by themselves, moved into society for three months at least, with compensation of course. The Light still simply met the children at the age of eleven. Some Dark or grey were missed and had to be brought before them.
"Come closer." Lucius was interested as two more families came through. One child almost radiating untap potential. How their own Book of Names missed him was beyond them.
"Tell them which is what, children. And your names." Fudge sniffed haughtily.
They all trembled. Harry felt sympathy for them. Their former wounds were not a pretty picture. His face being the most menacing. A face only a lover and mother could love, as he usually told himself. One single child came forward, Gryffindor without a doubt, and with him the other followed. This one would lead his age group it seemed. There was only one more of this age, and she was as shy as they come.
"Hector Ramon Salgado. I was told I was Dark." The boy said with a chin angle that would make Malfoy proud. Which it did. The man was going to mentor this child after this, all his necessary studies were guarenteed if the small tilt of the head in recognition was to say anything.
One by one, the others said who they were. The potential revealed more and with it hope that they would not be unbalanced rose.
"Welcome to the Dark Side." Harry announced loudly with a smile as all the muggles and muggleborn in the building couldn't help it when they giggled or chuckled as he tried to imitate Darth Vader.
"Do you have cookies?" One small female child of an announcer asked. He smiled at her and allowed his magic to search her. She shivered but held her ground. A good batch it seemed.
"For you child, we have brownies." Harry responded with his softer croaked tone. He did not smile as it would make him more unwelcoming.
The child revealed her smile with missing teeth. She was a future grey. He would make sure to check his Book to make sure. The last thing they needed was a malfunction book. That would leave room for abused children to not find salvation among them before it was too late. He would do everything to prevent that. Even sending out his own signature to reach them. Something that would leave him magically crippled for a month or more but save lives. Blaise knew this and whispered a reassurance that he did not hear but sank into regardless.
"We have a representative to assist you individually outside these doors. Fear nothing as everything will be explained." Pansy said as she simply indicated the several small scars that were not seen underneath the makeup she Lightly placed atop them. Not in an attempt to hide but for beauty sake, the woman loved to match. The families were ushered out.
"Next." Lucius growled.
"Seconded" Pansy sighed.
Fudge frowned as he realized the meeting was being led without his input.
And so the meeting went. Full of subtle back jabs. The Light as usual was split. A small fraction of Light siding with the neutral and grey. Sadly, this action made them targets for attacks by the Light. Each new one that sides with them was secretly to be brought before Hadrien to receive help and emergency portkey for them and their family. As the Overseer, it was and always will be his job to oversee all three. That was suppose to be his job but Light and grey were so few, crime and murder was not to be tolerated. The Light was so large compared to the other two they needed extra eyes. What is already a stressful job was made worse by this and the fact that magical creatures weren't even in the picture. Treaties, welcoming, meetings, and making sure no surprise attacks were coming from with in and out.
Let's not even begin with the orphan situation. Parents in the war had panicked at the sudden breakout of violence after the Battle of Hogwarts that they sent their children away wherever they could. Harry at the time was not even on top of the situation. Many orphans were later rescued from family manors with starved and frantic house elves. Some had brought friends whose muggle families could not be found. He had to find families for them and some who no one would take, he had to place in an orphanage, which he hated to do. Some could not be found till years later, roaming and living off the streets. By now the adult to child ratio had risen from 1:4 before the War to 4:1. Some couples were caring for five children at this time and some like Lucius and Luna sponsored and regularly visit one at an orphanage, that Hadrien himself regularly inspects randomly.
"Where are you, My Liege." Lucius rich voice interrupted his thoughts on today's items to be done. He gave the man and eyebrow and went to stand. His brace making a subtle creaking moan as it balanced the weight away from his damaged areas. It was also an alarm from reminding him to service the darn thing. It needed to be regularly oiled and checked.
"It seems one family has chosen to side with us, Baron." Panthora informed solemnly. It was another family to suffer with only so much help from them unless the came over.
"Are they here?" Blaise asked as he kept his hand on Hadrien's back. The man knew when to ask the right questions.
"Yes, they seem intimidated to come forth." The blonde humphed as he checked his nails. His cane had been destroyed in defending Luna and he had yet to replace it. Such novelty items would have to wait as time and supplies were sparse in the rapid expansion of their man rather not risk the more delicate ones in his family vaults.
"Bring the man forth. All the Light is gone by now. We apparently reek of death magics." Lucius sighed in fake disappointment.
The man came forth in small reluctant steps as soon as he had heard that particular statement. The man was renown owner of the Apocherary in the New Diagon Alley. He was well known Light advocate.
"M-my Lord Baron, I came to apologize for my actions before. I-I have seen our wrongs, My L-lord Baron." The poor man stuttered. He was moderately dressed for his position. They knew there was more to the story than what was presented.
"If you must . . . my Lord." Harry deepened his tone so as not to overly scare the man back into the Light. Harry was trying to save lives not make his easier.
"M-my Lord."
Harry looked at everyone with an expressionless face. The thought had been passed. Years had taught others what to say for him. The first few weeks had been quite a hassle when his voice box had not recovered from the infected bite that had nicked it.
"Your apologies are accepted. All we ask is for you not to go back your word. As well be involved in what's happening." Blaise replied. Harry huffed sLightly.
"As well as remaining safe. We will give you an emergency portkey for you and your family in case your former side decides to attack you. As well as a few to send with people if you notice them in danger. All will land you in our resident healers location." Pansy said quickly as she walked to him and conquered and summoned her gifts.
"Do you know of anyone that might need our help? Its a standard question we ask since our faction was formed." The Malfoy Lord waved his hand around. His missing arm's side was faced away.
"Yes, yes I do! Literally the day after the third meeting, there was a child I had found in a trash then I had found a group of children being picked on by adults.I have them all safe at home but I don't have enough space or money. Especially now that my sales will go down. I just can't go have them starve, My Lord. I plead for your help." The third meeting was close to seven months ago.
"Bring the infant." Harry said in a whisper. He was horrified by what they had missed.
"Amber!"
"Yes, Master Windster." An elf squeaked.
"Bring the little one."
Great trust must exist for them to even given such a responsibility to an elf.
Soon the sounds of a crying child was heard. Hadrien shot forward and took the child. The owner of the shop clinched his hand around his wand but stopped and gaped as the child stopped crying and cooed. Hadrien smiled and rocked the child while sending out his soothing neutral magic.
"He has always cried so much around me. I thought it was me."
"No, never you, Lord Windster. The child is a strong magic empath. He is a Dark with borderline grey magic. They child's mother or bearer must have been Dark while the father must have been grey or vice versa." Hadrien hummed as soon as Pansy explained.
Blaise observed the manner in which the man he had married bond with the child. The magic almost tangible as they caressed each other before falling into an obvious bond to each other. This was the man that was spoken of in the underground community. The one rarely seen in battle or in front of the Council.
Hadrien gave a small tilt of the lips. His scar stretched a bit as he did. The seven month old infant was cradled to his neck with a single strong hand on his bum. The child content and gave a small coo that Hadrien grunted at.
"Iggy." He declared to Pansy who was writing the name on a conquered temporary birth certificate.
"Short for?" Pansy pressed.
"Fabian Ignotus Potter." He continued. "One day Lord of the Potter Family."
"Have you ran out of Lordships yet? I feel like you're piling children to own at this point." Blaise sighed and Harry growled loudly at this.
"No need to bring out your cat." Lucius mumbled as he faced the single Light personnel in the room.
"Cat? It's true?" Came the squeak.
"Lucius."
The glare increased on the stoic and calm blonde.
"It's a little close to the new moon so the small bit of magical being in our Liege tends to get testy." Blaise smiled with a soft voice. This sooth Hadrien's fur so to speak.
"How many Lordships do you have, My Lord?" The man asked, his shoulders relaxed and body uncurled. Hadrien looked approving at this and nodded to Pansy with an exaggerated sigh.
"Potter, Black, Diagon, Knockturn, Gaunt, and LeStrange." Pansy smiled as she passed a few papers that the Light Baron skimmed and signed. The new comer opened his mouth- "Lord Longbottom did not wish to hold that Lordship and it was passed down to our Lord." Hadrien's eyes made a familiar round stretch as angry air escaped his lips.
The words 'Lord' and 'Liege' were beginning to be the bane of his existence.
"You have heirs for all?"
"Hmm"
"May I ask who they are?"
"They are not all Dark, Windster." Harry said in his unmodified scratched tone. To his pleasure the man did not react to his voice.
"Sorry, my Lord." The man said chastised. But not in fear.
Hadrien knew this man would be a major connection to the very Alley he had difficulty controlling, despite his lordship and reign over it.
"Teddy is the Lord in training to the Ancient and Noble House of Blacks and the Founding and Noble House of Diagon. He is Light. And so Reggie, the heir to Black is Light grey. Dorea is the heiress to the Gaunt Lordship and is Dark grey. Fang is heir to the redeemed LeStrange lordship and is Light grey. Lastly, Eon is the heir to the Baronship as the Overseer and is the only Dark heir." Blaise explained as he plopped back into his seat and smiled as he hooked his ankles together and slouched. Lucius raised an eyebrow at his unbecoming behavior.
"Iggy."
"Oh and lets not forget the newest member. Iggy, the heir to the Most Regarded and Adored House of Potter as a Dark grey."
What are your thoughts? -Halogien
