A/n ok, it occurred to me that despite many mentions LM Montgomery never wrote out the poem "The piper" . I was reading Rilla of Ingleside when I realized this and I sat up with a bolt and ran to my computer. If LM Montgomery didn't write out the Piper, I will. I want your opinions on this rendition of the never written poem.
Disclaimer: This all belongs to the wonderful LM Montgomery. I copied one line directly from the book Rilla of Ingleside, because it is strongly implied that it is in the poem.

On an evening just like this,
I saw a figure through the mist.
He piped a song
I wanted to follow it on and on,
Round the world and beyond,
But then he was gone.
When this war came to threaten the empire's stay,
He called those young men to be soldiers away.
They listened to his call,
They followed perhaps to fall.
On he pipes his call,
Still soldiers follow to their fall.
In that hell on earth their bodies lay,
Those men who gave their lives for the empire's stay,
For our tomorrow they gave their today.
But our hope must not falter or fray,
You must keep faith with those who are away,
Even if they will not come back some day.
Everyone has made a sacrifice of their kin
Through that sacrifice we will win,
For not only are those soldiers who fighting, who will still come back to you
But the silent army of those who gave up their lives is fighting too.
If we lose humanity will be on the cross,
So Prussianism must be at the loss.
We will not have our empire on the noose,
We will not let ourselves lose.
Their sacrifice must not be in vain
We must stop this red rain.
If you do not break faith with those you love who won't come back,
The silent army will protect us, so of this there must not be lack.
Follow the piper's call
Follow, so more will not have to fall.
Then we can stop the pain,
Then we can stop this red rain,
And those who died will not have died in vain.
