"It's a shame they didn't give me that promotion. I am a good detective, much better than people think I'd say. I'ts just nobody has noticed yet. Batista has been close, but to be honest, I've always been in the background eclipsed by others. Never standing out too much. Partly because of the mistakes I commit on purpose.
It is also a shame that we have lost our Bay Harbor Butcher, Dexter. Yes, Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher. I told you I was good, I've known that almost from the beginning, you didn't have to be a genius to notice.
Everyone makes mistakes. Routines are easy to track and decipher. One stops being careful after a while.
The reasons why I never arrested Dexter are many. One of them is Debra, who adored his brother. I could not think what Debra would do if Dexter was arrested and sent to the deathrow. Because that is what would happen to him if he were caught. I think Debra knew nothing at first, but one day she started acting strange. She changed. My theory is that at some point Dexter must have finally confessed everything and she found it hard to swallow.
Maria LaGuerta ended up suspecting him too, but unlike her I always supported what Dexter did. That's why I obstructed her investigations as much as I could, being careful not to look suspicious myself.
I don't wanna enter into moral debates about what's right and what's wrong and whatnot, I will just say that I approved and even admired Dexter's murders. The way he managed his doublé life, all the arrangements prior to hunting his victims, creating an atmosphere and covering his tracks... On many occasions I followed him carefully to see the way he did everything. The ailbis, the plastic wraps, the pictures of the victims... It was fascinating.
In the end, I became your silent, invisible ally. The more understood your way of thinking, the more I stopped believing in the justice system, because sometimes... prison wasn't enough... Sometimes criminals didn't even deserve to keep breathing and someone has to step in and fix that.
You were the only one brave enough to do it.
That's why, Dexter, I find so unfair that you've moved to Argentina. Miami still needs the Bay Harbor Butcher. Miami needs you. It frustrates me that you left everything for going after a woman, but who am I to juzgue?
But do not worry, I found a way to honor you. I'll do it my way. I'll do it your way."
Detective Quinn waited patiently for his victim to awake. The man was naked on a table, wrapped in plastic, in a room also wrapped in plastic where three portraits of a woman and two young children were hung. He slowly opened his eyes, still groggy by the sedatives, he tried to sit up in vain which made him start getting nervous. He began to sweat as his fear became evident to Joey's eyes. He decided to enjoy it, to sabor that fear as Dexter Morgan would be doing if he was there.
"W- Where am I!? " He asked, trying to turn his head " Who are you? "
"Not your business. Not anymore" Quinn answered, "I'm only someone trying to finish what someone else started."
"I... I do not understand ... Why am I here? Let me go! P-please ... "
"I'll release you in a few moments, do not worry. After I kill you." Joey said nonchalantly.
The man looked at the wall and saw the pictures of his wife and children. He had killed them fearing that his ex-wife-to-be would take them with her to Montpelier after the divorce.
"Oh, so you 're the one who fucked my wife in my own bed. The one that put all those ideas inside her head?. You want revenge for what I did eh, motherfucker? Then fuck you, because she will never be yours again!. She's mine! She will never belong to anyone else anymore!"
Quinn smiled. The time had come.
"I never had the pleasure to meet her, but thanks for the confession nonetheless" He muttered, raising his knife with both hands and stabbing the man's stomach.
He watched as the man screamed and twitched until he progressively lost all his strenght as the blood leaked from the open wound. Then he went still.
This is my tribute to you, Dexter. Bay Harbor Butcher will remain active. I promise you he will.
