A Single Rose
'A single red rose was placed on the coffee table, no note or sign as to who it was from. Vince received lots of valentines, more than he could count. But this was the only one that was unsigned and this was the only one that had his full attention. There were a number of possible admirers, Vince's thoughts stuck on 'him', his feelings for 'him' had grown stronger over the time they had known each other. But 'he' still did not know of Vince's feelings. And Vince couldn't risk 'him' knowing as it could spoil everything.
Howard walked into the room where Vince sat, and watched as his friend twirled a red rose between his fingers.
"Howard?" Vince looked up anxious. "do you know who sent this rose ? it's unsigned."
"No. I don't see why you're so focused on that rose just because you don't know who it's from." Howard shrugged. He didn't notice Vince get up until he had felt the couch shift under weight.
" 'coz I was kind of hoping it was someone I really like" he looked down.
" Oh? And who would that be? That girl you went out with the other night?" Howard asked half joking, half serious.
"No." Vince looked up and tried to read his friends face. " I love you Howard."
Howard was taken aback for the past ten years he'd always loved Vince, always secretly been jealous every time he got a new girlfriend, Always wished it was him he was kissing.
" I love you too, Electro boy" Howard smiled and pulled Vince into the softest kiss Vince had experienced. " Be my valentine?" he asked picking up the rose." Because you got your wish."
"But you said you didn't know who it was from."
" I lied."
