I know why the caged bird sings

Do you hear the Birds singing the song of sorrow?
So sweet but do you hear the despair?
The one to weep won't cry,
Yet the one with nothing to crave laments

Do you hear the birds singing the song of sorrow?
Yes, you DO hear yet you do not listen
They wish to be free like you are free,
However, futilely, they fight destiny

An invisible cage surrounds them
I see them flailing around me for the open air
The air that you breathe in everyday,
Do you hear the birds singing the song of sorrow?

Do you hear the birds singing the song of sorrow?
Happy, they have tried to be but did not succeed,
Do you hear the many birds crying in agony for freedom?
Do you know that one of them is me?
