Summary: Coming after the win in the Winter Cup, Seirin enjoys some R&R.
Disclaimer: I don't own KnB
A/N: This is going to be the first multi-chapter I'm going to be writing, and I hope I'll get farther with this. I have a few chapters prepared but I still haven't laid out where I really want to go with this. (Well, I have an idea but not that concrete yet anyway).
I'm intending this to be Furi-centric though, really think he'd be nice to develop a bit, being one of the regular people on the Seirin team. No pairings right now, and the rating might change.
Chapter 1-I Can Be A Vice Captain?
It was a good year for a certain high school basketball team. They just won the championship round of the Winter Cup, their first year hothead got crowned MVP and Rookie of the Year. As a reward, Alex and Tora treated the team to a nearby onsen.
The trip was sudden but the team greatly appreciated it. They were ridiculously tired and the trip could very well give them some much needed relaxation time. They arrived at the onsen quite late so they decided to have dinner then enjoy the facilities tomorrow.
"Alright you brats, this shit's expensive, but you're worth every single damned yen we're paying on this! Plus we got a discount since Alex-san frequents this place. So enjoy yourselves! Number ones in Japan!"
"Osu!" they all cheered.
After dinner, Riko thought that the time was fit for some announcements regarding the team. She knew they would still have a hangover off of the win and she needed some of them to ride that wave and step up.
"Alright everyone, can I have your attention for a bit?"
"Uh... Coach, this isn't about training is it? I mean..."
"No, Koganei-kun, this isn't about training. But this is something that concerns the whole team so pay attention now."
Riko began her spill on how Kiyoshi will not be playing anymore but will be managing the team. Her father will be joining Seirin as the head coach. Alex will also be joining the coaching staff since she planned on staying permanently in Japan (much to Kagami's dismay at trying to get Alex to be more decent at home).
"Finally, incoming second years will have to step up. While we have an edge with the third years still being here, we need to prepare for the succeeding seasons as well."
The current freshmen knew this already. But they weren't sure at what to think of the coach's next statements.
"Kagami, Kuroko, the two of you will continue being our ace-combination. Kuroko, I'm sure you know this already but we need to refine your technique. I'm afraid some of your current arsenal won't be as useful against the teams this time around."
"Hai, I realized this as well."
"Fukuda-kun, Alex-san will be focusing on your training for now. With Kiyoshi gone, we badly need a center, and no, Bakagami will not be enough to cover it."
"But coach, I can handle it if I have..."
"Silence, Bakagami! I'm not giving you any more work than you have to do. You're still the only one who can beat the generation of miracles in a one-on-one so you leave the center position to Fukuda-kun! Got it?"
"Hai" both Kagami and Fukuda said, although Fukuda already knew. That's why he was training to get himself to jump higher and he's been studying Kiyoshi's playing style as well. Not that he'd be able to fill his shoes, but still, he'd be able to learn a lot from the retiring founder.
"Furihata-kun, I'm making you the vice-captain for the team."
"Ha... EH?! Are you sure about that coach?"
"Sure as I'll every be. Kawahara volunteered to be assistant manager and scout since he can't cope with training."
"Coach, I think he's worried because he hasn't seen much playing time yet?" asked Koga, "But I think it's a pretty good idea."
"W-w-what do you mean K-k-koga-senpai?"
"If we consider the current state of the team, only four people are qualified to be vice-captain. Even if we factor out the ace position, Kagami is too hot-headed while Kuroko is too quiet. And between you and Fukuda, you've had more playing time. Besides, I think the incoming first years would be more at ease around you."
"Nice observation Koganei-kun, but there's also one more thing."
"One more, coach?"
"Can you picture Furihata-kun on the court without jittering and with a composure like, say, Akashi-kun?"
"Sounds hard to imagine, but I think he'd be a way better player than he is now. I mean... sorry Furihata-kun, although even with his jitters he's got good moves. Four points out of two shooting attempts after all."
"See? Furihata-kun have more confidence in yourself. My dad will help you with that."
"Kagetora-san? Uh... I might get shot for real this time."
"Don't worry kid, I won't bust out the guns. But I WILL get drastic on you if I have to. Oh and another thing... Riko-tan"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!"
"Loan me this little chihuahua for a month. We'll be training at the sports club. Let's see if he can become a bigger dog by the time I'm done with him."
"Papa, not a dog, I want him to be a feral wolf by the time the next year's games come in."
"Coach, do you really think this is a good..."
"What was that Furihata-kun? You're getting ready to strip naked in front of Satori-chan? She IS the girl you have your eyes on right?"
"Eh... well, yes... but..."
"It sure takes a lot of guts for a man to strip buck naked and confess to the girl he likes while standing at attention doesn't it?"
"…"
"In the middle of winter nonetheless... or maybe you'd like to advance it in the summer? You, on the rooftop, standing naked with the sweat dripping off of your body for the student body to see? Your man-bits dangling for Satori-chan to see..."
"...alright... I'll do it..."
"What was that, Furihata-kun?"
"Alright, I'll be the vice-captain, coach."
A/N: That's it for Chapter 1, up next is a hot spring scene. I can really imaging Furi taking over as the captain after Hyuuga graduates. I kinda want to see them go up against some of the other teams again, I might be able to figure it out in the future chapters.
