There she was, once again standing by the shore, why? Texas would never know, she always did so lately. In fact, Texas felt very lonely. Her siblings never visit her anymore, besides Mexico, but he just passes through to go see America, who was also ignoring her. Normally Texas would enjoy being solitary, but it was almost her birthday, the day she had achieved what most thought ,at the time, would be impossible. The day she had finally achieved nationhood, it didn't last long, but she did it.

She wished it could've lasted longer. Being a nation made her feel free, not the free America claimed his nation was about, like a bird kinda of free. The freedom to soar in the sky, and no one could tell what to do.

But, unfortunately, she couldn't make it by herself. She was in horrible debt and she didn't have a big enough to protect herself. She didn't even want to be annexed, but all of her people did, so she had to. She hated that everyone had always forgotten that she was a country, even America forgot. It always filler her with a rage that she feared she wouldn't be able to control, but when she was by the sea, it calmed her. Texas gave a faint smile; the sea had always calmed her. It was yet another mystery she had yet to find out.

Staring at the sea also made her feel sadness. She remembered when she was younger , when France used to visit her. One day he said he was going to go home for a while, that he would be back in three months. When three, then four, soon five, she knew was not going to came back. But she still waited, even though she knew. Soon enough, her papa, Spain came and took her to his house. It was nice while she was there, but one day he had taken her back home and said he would be back soon. Next thing she knew her big brother Mexico told her that he was independent from Spain. Once again she was left alone with a broken promise. Being with Mexico was no better. The only time she saw him was when she went with Stephen Austin to get Next thing she knew her big brother Mexico told her that he was independent from Spain. The only time she saw him was when she went with Stephen Austin to see if Mexico would let Americans immigrate to Texas, he had said yes.

Texas stayed with the Americans who came. She soon learned English, she was finally happy , until Mexico made a surprise visit, but that is a different story. It had hardly anything to do with her loneliness, besides the fact she wanted to do something about it.

Texas noticed the sun was setting and decided to go home; she had work to do anyways.

When she arrived to her house, there was a surprise visitor at her door. The visitor had been sitting on the patio. They stood up and walked up to her. "Hello Texas, I just wanted to tell you something…"

Texas couldn't believe it. Was what she was being told true? But why her? Why?
