This poem is dedicated to my super-talented and creative mom.
Once upon a time, on a bright and joyous day
A little girl was born, in a kingdom far away.
The king and queen decided, that beautiful fall,
To celebrate her birth, to have a grand ball!
They invited several fairies (on the phone)
Those fairies came and knelt by the throne
They came and told the king and queen
"Your majesties, we're here.
A lovelier child we've never seen,
And you may have no fear.
We've all brought gifts for your sweet baby
Shall we present them?"
The queen cried, "Maybe!"
And hurriedly the king explained,
"First tell us what you bring!
Then we'll decide if it is pleasing,"
finished the queen and king.
The fairies shrugged and nodded
Though they were sure that this was wrong
The first fairy stepped forward
"I give the gift of song.
She'll play piano with great skill.
She'll have an ear for music.
It is a good gift, you'll agree,
And she can surely use it."
The other fairies spoke in turn
"The gift of words I give her"
"I give the gift of art"
"She'll know how to create great beauty"
"Her poems will touch each heart."
The last one said,
"And lastly, these qualities I give
A sense of humor, love and kindness
These things will help her live.
Well do our gifts please you oh, king?
Do they please you, oh, queen?"
These are quite special gifts we bring,
The best you've ever seen."
The king smiled at his lovely wife,
The queen looked in his eyes,
And then the king said carefully,
"This is a nice surprise.
Your gifts are good and ready
But we don't need them, don't you see?
She has these things already
She was blessed abundantly.
She'll practice her skills and she'll get better
They'll be more precious to her heart
She'll learn to sing and play piano
She'll write and she will create art
She will be friendly, kind and loving
And she will learn to laugh at life
She does not need your gifts," the king said.
"She does not need them," said his wife.
The girl grew up, became a woman,
Became a wife and then a mother
She used all of her God-given talents
to brighten up the lives of others.
(This poem was written by her daughter
Just an attempt to show her love
It was her mom that really taught her
To trust in blessings from above.)
