Crying in the night

'Lily I'm sorry.' Severus said for the millionth time. 'Save your breath.' She replied haughtily. 'Lily, please I didn't mean it. He's such a jerk.' He reasoned. 'No, Sev, you did mean it. You call every other person of the same birth as me it so why should I be any different?' She asked glaring at him. He opened his mouth to reply but she didn't give him chance. 'No, that's enough. Goodnight Snape.' She said turning on her heal and heading back into the Gryffindor common room.

'Hey Evans, what's up? I heard shouting.' James shouted running to meet her. Damn she was hot when she got angry James thought. 'Oh go boil your head in a vat of hippogriff dung Potter!' Lily shouted back running up the girl's dormitory stairs and slamming the door behind her.

'Oh yeah, she wants me.' James said quietly turning back to his friends after she'd slammed the door in the distance.

James shot up in bed and strained his ears and listened. Someone was crying downstairs. Probably Peter James thought as he got out of bed and silently walked downstairs.

Lily sat hunched over in the arm chair closest to the fire crying into her knees. 'Uhm, Evans?' James said attentively from behind her. She jumped violently and hiccupped. 'Hey, hey, chill Evans it's alright, sorry I shocked you.' James said sitting next to her. 'Oh, what do you want Potter?' She asked icily. 'Only came to see whoever it was crying was ok. I'll go then.' He said standing up. Lily grabbed his arm and pulled him back down.

'No, it's ok, you just shocked me.' She said sadly.

'What's up then?' He asked sitting closer to her, even when she was crying she was beautiful. 'Just Sev calling me a mud blood and he really upset me. It's just oh I don't know he was the only guy mate I had and the only guy I spoke to.' Lily sniffed avoiding looking at him. 'He had no right to call you that Evans. Bloody Snievellius needs to go wash that greasy mop he calls his hair.' James vented. Lily giggled; her worries fading fast, James had never stuck her as the sweet and caring type. He was always the obnoxious, over trying stuck up jerk. Seemed like she was starting to see him in a new light: his hair wasn't over style or to try hard, just wind swept normally, or just out of bed, he wasn't obnoxious, just funny and he wasn't stuck up because he was trying to make her feel better.

'You know Lily, even when you're crying you're really pretty.' James whispered quietly. Something inside of her roared approvingly and caused her heart to race. 'Are you feeling ok? That's the first time I've ever heard you call me Lily, normally it's 'Oi Evans!'' She asked studying him with her vivid green eyes. 'I guess it's because I'm tired I can't be bothered to be an 'obnoxious stuck up git' or bothered to go boil my head in a vat of hippogriff dung.' He replied looking into her eyes. She laughed again and looked to the floor before locking her eyes with his again.

'Want to know something else Lily?' He asked, she nodded not breaking eye contact as he kissed her lightly on the lips. 'I really like you.' He whispered.
