Looking across at his soon to be wife, Carson still couldn't believe how lucky he was. They had been friends for years and in just two days they were to be married, they were to become husband and wife, something he had wanted for so long. They hadn't spent much time together lately, what with running the kitchen and planning the wedding, moments like these had become rare. But after a busy day, they took it upon themselves to have at least 5 minutes with one another before he went to ring the gong for dinner.

Placing his teacup back down on the table, he hesitated a moment before looking across at her. She was sipping her tea, unaware he was watching her, that was until she went to place her teacup down. Smiling, she looked up at him. "Is there something the matter?" Mrs Hughes asked.

"Oh no," shaking his head "there isn't anything the matter, I just wondered if I might..."

After a moment of him staring, Mrs Hughes asked. "If you might what, Mr Carson?"

"If I might ask you a question?" He finally asked and his heart skipped a beat as she let out a little laugh before smiling across at him.

"Of course you may ask me a question, you don't have to ask me if you can ask me a question," Mrs Hughes smiled. "You just ask."

Nodding, he looked away a moment before looking back over at her. "I just wondered if you had given any thought to what you will be called once we are married?" Mr Carson finally asked.

"Mrs Carson, of course." She answered without hesitation.

"Really?" Mr Carson exclaimed happily, positively beaming at her response.

"Of course, that is your name isn't it?" She smiled, teasing him.

"Yes it is," he nodded. "But I just didn't know if you would have kept your name after all these years."

"Why would I? Mr Carson we are to be married in two days, in two days our new life will begin. Our new adventure starts, together as a married couple, as Mr and Mrs Carson." Mrs Hughes smiled. "And as much as I like my name now, I do believe Mrs Carson sounds better. Don't you?"

"Much better indeed, and thank you Mrs Hughes." Mr Carson beamed while standing to his feet.

"Whatever for?" Mrs Hughes smiled up at him as he come to stand in front of her.

"I am thankful to you, because once again you have given me one of the best days of my life and I can not wait for you become my wife, my Mrs Carson." He smiled and kissed her forehead.

"I can't wait either," Mrs Hughes smiled and watched as he made his way over to her door. "Will I get to see you again before bed?" She asked.

Stopping by the door, Mr Carson looked back over at her still sitting in her chair, smiling over at him. "I hope so," he smiled and opened the door. "Dinner won't be long." He called, walking out of her sitting room.

Smiling, Mrs Hughes turned back to her desk and continued checking her log book. Pausing a moment later, finding herself an old bit of note paper from her desk and scribbling 'Mrs Carson' down on it. She wanted to see what it felt like, writing down a different name to what she had been used to all her life.

Writing 'Mrs Carson' down several more times, finding herself surprised at the feeling it gave her. It was a tummy fluttering moment, one that made her heart skip a beat or two and one that made her fall in love with Mr Carson all over again. Smiling, she looked down at the piece of paper in her hands "Mrs Elsie Carson." She smiled quietly to herself, completely falling in love with the name she would soon be taking.

Knocking quickly on the door, Anna opened it and stepped inside. "Mrs Hughes," she exclaimed, taking the older woman by surprise.

"Whatever is the matter?" Exclaimed Mrs Hughes while placing her pen down and standing to her feet.

"It's Mrs Patmore, you had better come quick," the younger woman exclaimed while stepping back "before all hell breaks loose." She exclaimed while hurrying away.

Shaking her head Mrs Hughes followed, soon forgetting about the piece of paper she had been admiring just moments before.

Later.

"Mrs Hughes?" Mr Carson exclaimed while stepping inside her sitting room. "That's odd," he pondered to himself when he found the room empty "I wonder where she could be?" He said quietly while turning to walk back out, when something caught his eye.

Looking around the room one more time, before looking towards the door. Stepping closer to her desk, he eyed the piece of notepaper that Mrs Hughes had been scribbling on earlier that evening. Reaching out, he picked it up and read each line to himself. By the end, he was smiling. Sure it didn't say much, just a simple Mrs Carson on several of the lines, all except one. There was one line at the bottom that read "Mrs Elsie Carson." He smiled, averting his gaze up to the wall in front of him, drifting into a daydream.

"Yes?" Came the voice from behind him, causing him to turn around to face her. Averting her gaze to the piece of paper in his hand "you caught me." she smiled, averting her gaze back to his face as he averted his gaze to the piece of paper.

Putting the piece of paper down on her desk, Mr Carson turned back to her and began to apologise. "I'm sorry, I,"

"It's okay, Mr Carson." Mrs Hughes smiled and moved to stand in front of her husband to be. "Now that you have seen it, what do you think?" She asked and watched as he turned his head to look back at the paper a moment.

Looking back at his wife to be, he couldn't help but smile. "I love it, like I love you, Mrs Elsie Carson." Cupping her face, he looked into her eyes as she smiled up at him.

"I love you too!" Mrs Hughes smiled and closed her eyes as he lowered his head and kissed her.
