Chapter 1: The Death of the Dark King

"Scar!!! No… He can't be… No… SCAR!!!"

A deafening roar filled the entire cave as Zira roared in pain and sorrow when news came to her of the loss of her loved one.

Other lionesses came to her for comfort and support, but she nudged them away and snarled with anger and sorrow.

"Leave me be! No one can… I've lost everything!" She roared, slashing a large rock that stood beside her in silence.

The lionesses backed away in fear and sadness, watching their leader in so much pain.

Suddenly, out of the terrible roars and hissing came a soft yelp.

Zira suddenly stopped her tantrum with her claws still held high above her head ,gripping onto the rocks like a gecko on a wall.

"Oh," she whispered gently. "Oh Kovu, my sweet. Mummy hasn't forgotten you. Mummy will take great care of you, oh."

With a swift, but careful swipe of her mighty paws, she flipped a rock that fell on the top of Kovu during her rage.

Kovu, only a few months old in his life opened his large watery eyes towards his mother and a single tear fell down his furry cheek.

"Mummy never wanted to hurt you," purred Zira as she brushed her cheek against the top of Kovu's head. "Mummy wants you to be big and strong like our true king Scar. Scar chose you to be just like-"

"I'm supposed to be the Chosen One!" blurted out a spoiled, dried voice cub.

Zira's eyes narrowed as she looked up at her true son Nuka. Unlike Kovu, he was already walking and had a personality of his own like any other child. His physical looks were very much identical to Scar's, except for the fact that black depressing bags hung under his eyes giving him a look that falsely indicated that he hasn't slept for months. He was also extremely skinny and gangly.

"He was chosen to be in our family. He will never be as pure as me!" snarled Nuka, with his teeth shown to his mother of the utmost disgust.

Zira softly snarled and looked at Kovu straight in the eyes. "You are indeed Scar's son," she whispered quietly. "But Scar had chosen this young Kovu to take his place if Scar was to ever perish such as today…"

She broke off and begun to softly sniff to herself.

"What about Vitani?" asked Nuka, shifting his eyes upon another baby cub with eye bags similar to his.

"No," whispered Zira. "She was not chosen and she was born to do better things. Kovu, on the other hand has the potential to do greater things than the both of you. The stars even said so."

"Stuff the stars!" screamed Nuka and he ran right out of the cave, kicking dirt around in the air causing some of the lionesses to cough and splutter.

"Stupid brat!" Snarled Zira.

Kovu slowly sat up and eyed his mother with love and sadness. He placed his weak and very small head between his front paws and fell to sleep.

"Hush my little one," whispered Zira.

She walks over to Vitani and bites to carry her gently by the loose skin flap around her neck and places her next to Kovu.

"Soon, the both of you will grow up into fine fighters. Great leaders and dangerous assassins hehehe!"

Zira opened her mouth to allow the deafening laugh from escaping her lips with the rest of the lionesses.

"When Kovu is great and big," she roared into the hole in the cavern that revealed the heavens above, "he will kill and destroy SIMBA!!!"
