An: so today I went on a school trip to York and spent ages in the dungeons being freaked out but on the two hour journey home I wrote this because there's really not enough Kate/Jake fanfiction out there! x thanks for reading as always x

Kate fell back on her sofa with tears streaming down her face. She wiped them with her sleeve and put her face in her hands. She could hardly breathe as her emotions became uncontrollable.

There was a knock at the door and she sat quickly and tried to tidy herself up. She stood and went to the door; she had no idea who would want to see her at this time of night. She knew she looked a mess but didn't really care anymore.

She opened the door to see Jake. He was the last thing she needed right now...so she thought. Jake looked her in the eye and could instantly see she had been crying, he automatically without thinking pulled her into his arms.

"Kate, what's wrong?" He whispered stroking her back softly.

"My sister..." She started her head buried in his shoulder. "She's dead..."

He sighed kissing her hair "I'm sorry..."

Eventually she stepped back letting him through to the living room. He sat on the sofa beside her.

"It was an overdose..." She explained "four days ago...the day Ronnie found her address...I went earlier and that's when the landlord told me."

He put his arm around comfortingly, he may not always get on with Kate but she was his friend, some days it was like she was more than that.

"When did you last see her?"

"Six years ago..." Kate told him. "It was Christmas and I was forced to go back to our parents...I walked out..."

"Kate..." He sighed before wiping her tears away with his hand.

"Sorry I've dumped all this on you..." She said through her tears.

"No..." He shook his head. "It's ok..."

She kissed his cheek giving him a weak smile.

"What's that for?" He asked.

"For being there..."

He smiled. "Always."

She leant forward and kissed him on the lips instead and to her surprise Jake responded.

She pulled back a few moments later and smiled "always..."
