Swirling Darkness

Darkness was swirling around him, coming ever so close but never touching him. Time to time the darkness would lick at his arms and chest, but that was all. Never did it dare to do more, as if he was fragile and it, too, would lose the only occupant it had. The worst part of the swirling darkness that surrounded him, he was all alone. Not a soul in sight, not even near. If there was someone beside him, the darkness would've been bearable, but they left long ago into the world of light were everyone else is while he is stuck here in his own world, the world of surrounding darkness that mocks and would soon consume him tell he is no more.

He misses the person who had once understood him the most, who knew what to say and when to say it, and who never left his side. But now, he is gone into the world everyone else shares, leaving him in the prison of darkness all alone to bear the heart wrenching sadness that was caused when he had left.

"Hikaru…" he whispered softly as he shut his eyes to stop the tears that stung in them. The pain in hearing the name hurt so much, it even hurt when he just thought about it, but when the name left his lips, undeniable pain and loneliness accompanied it.

He felt selfish for wanting him back into their world of darkness, but no matter what, he couldn't feel happiness that he had finally found the world of light, only despair and regret. Despair for letting him slip from his grasp and telling him it was alright when he went to hang out with her. The one who helped him pass into the world of light. Regret for not holding on tight enough and telling him how he felt even though it was his idea to try and pass into the other world.

A cold shudder ran through his body as his knees curled up to his chest, the tears finally leaking from his dull golden eyes. He repressed a sob as he buried his head into the crook of his knees, letting the hot tears slither across his cheeks.

"Why…?" His voice sounded weak and broken making his heart clench even tighter in his chest as he cried to himself. "Why couldn't you stay?" he whispered to himself as he hugged the knees tighter to his chest as another heart wrenching sob tore through his body, leaving him weaker than before.

He missed the warmth the other would bring him, the smile that seemed to shine in the swirling darkness and the comforting words that would sooth him from his worries and sadness. He missed it all so so much that it hurt to even think about. But now, that was a distant memory left in the past that was far beyond his reached, it was probably for the best.

The swirling darkness that never touched, but only licked viciously at him, was now consuming him till he was no more.
