"Trip To Your Heart"

"Is this for me?" Blaze's voice was filled with curiosity, her golden eyes flickering from the bouquet she clutched in her hands to the person who gifted them to her. Silver stood a foot or two in front of her; he looked nervous as heck, arms tucked behind his back as he rocked on the balls of his feet. He kept his golden gaze firmly on the ground, refusing to look her way.

"Yeah, it is." His voice wavered, cracking in a few places and further betraying his nervousness. Blaze's gaze drifted back to the bouquet of flowers once more, drinking in every detail about them. They were tulips, each a pretty purple color; their petals were softer than clouds, and their fragrance was sweet and pleasant to smell. She touched them with the tips of her fingers, marveling at how beautiful they were and how thoughtful a gift they were to her. It was simple, but sweet.

She already knew without having to ask that Silver clearly put a lot of effort and thought into choosing such a lovely gift for her. Tulips were, after all, some of her favorite flowers, and the fact that Silver not only remember such a minute detail but went above and beyond to get them for her had her feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

Blaze moved and bridged the distance between them, smiling faintly at how Silver's cheeks lit up in a blush that was redder than Knuckles' fur. His eyes were wide, and he seemed to be petrified, held in place by her very presence. She always had such a strong, permanent effect on him. She made him feel like he was floating in midair, like his heart was going to burst out of his chest. It was like she was a magnet, and he was a piece of metal hopelessly and forever drawn to her.

So, despite wanting to hightail it out of there, to leave and take his heart back with him, Silver remained standing right where he was, forcing himself to meet her gaze instead of averting his own. His mouth felt dry, and his fingers twitched anxiously, his heart thudding wildly to the point where he feared he would have a heart attack. That or faint, and he wasn't sure which outcome was worst.

When Blaze reached one hand to graze the soft skin of his cheek, he felt like his face was on fire, he was blushing so ridiculously hard. He yearned for her touch, for her love, but feared she would reject him, that would forever just remain friends, and he wished he didn't put his heart out there, wished he could take it back because Blaze was intelligent and would easily piece together what him giving her that bouquet meant.

Instead, he swallowed his insecurities and forced himself to ask, "Do you like them?" Blaze peered up at him, a knowing look burning in the endless depths of her eyes, and he knew she understood what he was really asking: Do you like me?

Blaze moved so that they were nearly chest to chest, and she tilted her head up a bit so that their lips were brushing in a soft, barely there kiss that had Silver's stomach doing summersaults regardless. She was smiling at him, her hand still pressed against his cheek, and he saw that she was blushing too. It was faint and hard to see, but it was there.

"Yeah, I love them." I love you too, silly, and that was all Silver needed to know. Grinning widely, he didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms, careful not to crush her flowers. Nothing mattered to him but having the girl he loved like crazy in his embrace, their hearts beating in harmony.
