A friend told me that I couldn't write a 200-word Devil May Cry fanfiction. (Sticks tongue out) So it's very short. I decided to put it up as an apology for not updating other fics.

Disclaimer: I don't own devil may cry.

It's common knowledge that without the dark, light would be unable to exist. There would be nothing to distinguish it from anything else. The shadows lurking around the corner make the light what it is.

Without evil, humans wouldn't pray for good.

Without Vergil, Dante is nothing.

--

But similarly the dark needs the light. If there was no good, evil would still be unable to reign. It would have nothing to triumph over, nothing to compare itself to. It would cease to exist.

Without the light, demons wouldn't turn to evil.

Without Dante, Vergil is nothing.

They are the light and dark, the two sides of the same coin, the black and white pieces on a chessboard. They know that if the other were to disappear, they themselves would not be able to continue their existence. This is why, despite their fierce battles, neither of them is able to kill their mirror image, their twin. In taking away their brother's life, they would be killing themselves.

In a strange, twisted way, they need each other to really be alive.

So what happens when one of them is killed? When half of them is destroyed?

Chaos reigns. The other dies inside.
