Lalna and Livid

Nano didn't know about Lalna. He'd seemed alright when she had landed in his fountain after being blown up by Sjin. Someone she could trust to help her out, someone with a warm heart who would take her in. Sjin wasn't like that, he was an empty soul, someone who betrayed her to keep an old cold hearted friend.

Lalna wasn't like that. He was someone who could help her, not just with knowledge, but with kindness. He taught her and kept her safe, he agreed with her when she was serious. He didn't joke about things that were too serious to joke about, he didn't do things that made her suspicious.

And yet, Nano wasn't sure, Lalna was mysterious, he seemed to fight with himself in his mind, and sometimes, sometimes, just those times that he seemed to be more than himself, not the clumsy scientist who laughed and smiled, a side to him that...explained that he was not always in control.

Maybe it was that time that the flux accident happened, and he had locked her in her tower for 100 days. Or all those times he looked at her with fear in his eyes instead of laughter. Those times he made her feel unsure of herself, or made her panic and look away. Those times his eyes seemed to gleam an evil red color...

The one thing Nano noticed the most about Lalna were his eyes. His eyes could smile and laugh and show emotions. Sjin's eyes couldn't. His were blank and open, dark and empty, the only emotion he could show was malice. Lalna's could show every emotion she could ever think of, something that comforted and scared her at the same time.

Lalna's eyes were something that changed every second, they were never the same color, they were a rainbow, a mirage, a kaleidoscope, a way to read his mind without forcing him to tell the truth.

The truth. Something that Nano wasn't sure about, something that couldn't or wouldn't ever be solved.

Sometimes, Lalna's anger would get away with him, and he would do things that Nano never thought he was capable of. She began referring to this side of him as "Livid".

Livid was not Lalna, just as Lalna was not Livid. Lalna was a caring mentor, a kind man, someone who comforted Nano when she was sad. Lalna was everything Sjin wasn't, just as Sjin was everything Lalna would never do. Livid was the opposite, he was forgetful and fearful, selfish and self centered. Livid was Sjin, or maybe worse. Livid was caught up in rivalries as old as time. Still raging war with Sjin and Rythian.

Lalna was the side that stared at her flux with sorrow and regretfulness, Livid was the side that looked at her with fear. Nano was never comfortable around Livid, and wished that Lalna could always be there.

They moved out of the castle, The nagas were too strong...

Lalna saved Nano from the Flux Mother.

They crashed in New Camelot, thanks to Livid's poor judgement.

New Camelot turned into a snowy mess, and they moved to dimension 0.

Lalna made Pandalabs, a place they lived happily, a place where Nano could almost forget Livid, but only almost.

And yet, Nano still couldn't explain Livid, for Livid did not stick around as much as he used to. He was almost never there in New Camelot.

...And he was gone at Pandalabs.

Sometimes, she glimpsed him with other people, but he never returned to her.

Sometimes he visited in her nightmares.

But he was a mystery she was never destined to solve.
