"His name.",Raven thought, his eyes narrowing in focus. What they were focused on, however, seemed to be nothing, given the fact that the young Zoid pilot was sitting in the middle of the barren desert. Truth be told, he was focusing on something, someone to be exact, that only he could see. He was focusing upon an image that had been far hidden in the back of his minds eye.

Raven snorted as he said his next words. "His name is what bothers me. Van. Van Freiheit."

Barely a minute after he had spoken, a sandy wind swept forth causing the young man to close his eyes. He frowned as the wind whipped at his hair and clothes. He repeated the name over and over again within his mind, like an echo with no signs of ceasing. Raven screamed in frustration. "Damn him! Damn him all to hell!",he stood and kicked at the sand. He wanted to hit something, someone, anyone! Maybe the people who caused his life to be like this. Maybe hunt them all down and that be that.

Panting, the young Zoid pilot tried to calm himself and sat back down. The individual to which the name belonged caused Raven to feel emotions he did not understand. Emotions that he had not felt since he was a child. 'He...he was the one I was going to see.',he thought in remembrance, silent tears falling down his cheek, collecting sand as the wind died down and dirtying up his face as they did so.

Slowly he stood up, his eyes opening now that the wind had passed. He shook loose the grains of disintegrated rock and wiped away the tears from his now messed face. This was no time for emotions. He had a task at hand and emotions would only interfere. Memories would only interfere.

Undoubtedly the name, not to mention that of whom the named belonged to, would haunt him until the day he died. Whether Raven truly minded that or not was not yet certain to him. The only thing that was certain was that no matter what feelings he had, then and now, they would not jeopardize his mission.

After all, the mission was all he had left to grasp onto and that was one thing Raven could honestly say he didn't mind.

This is an older fic I wrote a while back, updated just a tad. It was my first Zoids fanfic and I still kind of like it. Ah, memories!

Thanks for reading. Feel free to review, if you're up to it.
