Princess Irah was in the palace garden with her best friend Yi Lin. They were doing what they had done thousand of times before- writing stories together. Yi Lin would come up with a story and Irah would illustrate them.
Drawing, it seemed drawing was the only way Irah could express herself. She often drew her surroundings. Although she loved drawing the ocean best. When her family made their annual trip to Ember Island, Irah would sit on the beach and draw for hours.
At this particular moment however, she was drawing a dragon guarding a castle. The two girls favored stories with dragons, good or evil. They especially loved to hear the story of when their fathers- Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko- were training and had an encounter with the last two dragons in the world.
"Then just as the warrior approached the dragon," Yi Lin was saying, "Up out of nowhere popped up sixty... uh, sixty..." "sixty WHAT?" asked Irah. "I don't know, any ideas Irah?""hmmm," Irah siad thoughtfully, "hog-monkeys?" "No, it needs ti be REALLY fierce and BIG!" "Rabbiroos?" Irah replies with a giggle "NO!" Yi Lin said, throwing her hands up. Then they both began laughing. "But seriously." said Yi Lin "sixty WHAT?"
After several minutes in thought, Irah finally came up with something "Komodo Rhinos?" she suggested "Perfect! Out of nowhere popped up sixty Komodo Rhinos, charging at the warrior, forcing him to retreat. But just when he thought he wouldn't make it..." "YI LIN?" called her brother from across the garden, "WHAT? We're in the middle of a story here Tseng! Can't you yell somewhere else?" Tseng ran over to where the girls were sitting "No" he said between breaths, "And why on earth NOT?" asked Yi Lin rather annoyed at her little brother. "BeCAUse, it's time to go!" "Already?" sighed Irah "Yeah, and Dad said we need to go right away!" both girls said goodbye and Yi Lin went reluctantly with her brother.
After they left, Irah went back to her drawing, adding in the sixty Komodo Rhinos and finishing the castle wall. She laughed at her friend's creativity and almost was jealous, whenever Irah tried to write a story herself, it seemed dull. But when Yi Lin wrote a story, or told one for that matter, it was full of fantastic characters, and a great story line. And it is for that reason, that Yi Lin tells the story and Irah illustrates them.
