I was riding my horse to the Fa household when I heard a little girl shout "We want to be just like you Fa Mulan!" Great, just who I was looking for. I steered my horse to the wall and hid so they wouldn't see me. Maybe she'll give them some tips and send them away. What I saw surprised me. I saw girls. This will be interesting.
Mulan laughed. "I'm still learning myself." The children wouldn't let her back out. "Please!" they all begged. "Alright! I guess I can show you a few moves." Mulan submitted. Now for the show I thought. "Mulan's going to teach us how to kick butt!" a little girl told the other girls. "Yay!" they all shouted and started to swing their 'weapons' around. Mulan just laughed. "That's lesson number two." I was confused. Isn't that always lesson number one? Little did I know I would learn it definitely wasn't.
All the girls were confused. "The most important lesson is to be gentle. And at the same time, we're being tough," Mulan tried to explain. I was confused and apparently, so were the kids. "How can you be tough and gentle?" a girl asked, confused. "Yeah!?" another girl shouted. "I want to be tough!" Again all the girls shouted "Yeah!""I know it does sound a little funny, huh," Mulan said. "But, the world is full of opposites, and so are you. To be a good warrior, you must bring it all into balance." Me and the children all were more confused by this statement. Mulan paused, thinking. Then she explained differently.
"Lets see if this helps," she said. "Earth, sky. Day, night. Sound and silence. Dark and light!" I was still a bit confused. She continued. "One alone is not enough. You need both together." My eyes widened, I've never heard her sing before. She was amazing. "Winter, summer. Moon and sun." she continued. Then she did a flying kick and threw the metal head off the rake she was holding.(AN Sorry for the person it hit.) I was shocked, how did she do that? Mulan kept singing. "Like a rock, huh, huh. You must be hard, huh, huh." With each huh she jabbed with the rake handle stick thing. "Like and oak, muh. You must stand firm, huh, huh. Cut quick, like my blade! Think fast, huh, huh, Unafraid."
This women surprised me so much. The children started to imitate her moves perfectly, singing the same words as she did. Somehow, they did it completely right! I thought Mulan was done when a little girl said "Okay, Mulan. I'm ready!" She got into a fighting position. "Uh-huh," Mulan said. She pushed the girl down with just one finger. "But you're still out of balance." I didn't see why, the position was fine! Then Mulan started singing again. "Like a cloud, you are soft. Like bamboo, you bend in the wind. Creeping slow you're at peace because you know, it's okay to be afraid." Then, I decided to put these lessons to memory, except for the soft one, maybe. I'm not really a fan about being soft.
The children copied what she was doing and started singing again. This was amazing, they did everything almost exactly the same as Mulan! Then Mulan led the children in a line, doing some kung-fu moves while singing again. The children did exactly what she was doing, just one step behind the other while also singing a bit behind her. Mulan then led them jumping across some rocks in a stream, sort of like the training exercise I did with the poles over a river. One girl slipped and Mulan's dog licked her. Now, I saw Mulan standing in the middle of a circle of children watching them. She even taught some of them a vaulting move using a bamboo staff. An average man would take months to master some for the moves she was teaching. Yet, the children learned it perfectly.
At last, Mulan stood in the middle and sang the last words of the song while the children continued singing. "You have begun!" It was then that I decided to show my self so I climbed on my horse and rode down to greet her. I can't wait to surprise her.
