Inuyasha sat at the base of the sacred tree and waited for Kikyou to come here. He needed to see her just this once for the very last time. He could smell her getting closer to him from behind. He had to tell her his answer.

Kagome stood and watched Kikyou walk up to Inuyasha and hug him; she was going to watch Kikyou seduce Inuyasha once again at this same spot. She wanted it to be just her spot, hers and Inuyasha's spot, the place where they first meet. But it was Kikyou's spot too; this was where she had sealed Inuyasha to The Tree. She suddenly noticed that Inuyasha wasn't hugging back and, actually, was putting space between the two of them. Then he started to speak and she could just make out what he was saying.

Inuyasha "You asked me to pick between you and Kagome, who I would love and who I would dump one year ago exactly, well here is my answer"

Suddenly the wind changed and he could smell Kagome close, he faltered for a moment then raised his voice so she could hear what he was going to say.

Inuyasha "I fell in love with you over 50 years ago…"

Kagome hearing this almost ran right to the bone eating well to never come back but didn't because she knew, he knew, she was here.

Inuyasha "and still think of you as a good friend, but Kagome knows me, heart and soul now. She tries to keep me from harm even at the cost of her own life; she knows how to comfort me when I feel sad and lonely. Kagome is my love and will always be; I'm sorry that I can't love you like I used too anymore. I'm sorry that you think Kagome stole me from you but I love her with all my heart."

Kikyou just looks up at Inuyasha and turns and leaves, she never looks back.

Kagome heard all of this and couldn't believe it, Inuyasha had said, in her presence, that he loved her. Suddenly Inuyasha was standing right in front of her; she jumped a foot and gasped her surprise, then hugged him as hard as she could.

Inuyasha "You heard all of that?"

Kagome "Yes, was all of it true?"

Inuyasha "Yes all of it is true. I love you Kagome, I love you."

Kagome "I love you too Inuyasha, I love you too!"
