Sansa attended the tourney along with her father, Jeyne Poole, Septa Mordane and her sister a day late. She and her sister were not allowed to go yesterday after the trouble they caused. From what she heard the tourney was magnificent but a tragedy happened when a knight of the Vale was accidentally killed by Ser Gregor Clegane. When she heard the news she felt nothing and why would she? She didn't know the man and she didn't even know his name.
And there she was. She was certainly not disappointed with the stories she heard about the tourney when she entered and she remembered that she heard the crowd cheer from a mile away when she was locked up. She watched the two finalist. Almost like opposites one was wearing a white cloak and golden armor while the other was wearing a red cloak with black armor but one thing they shared and that was the golden helmet that represented a lion. She knew who the first one was that bu the other had her curiosity.
"Who is that?" Arya asked. Most of the time she and her sister had no mutual interests but this time was different. She was interested in the Black Lion as much as Arya probably even ,ore.
"That is Loren Lannister "the Black Lion"." She turned around quickly and found a small man with a pointed beard.
"Sansa and Arya, this is Lord Petyr Baelish, of the king's small council." Septa Mordane said quickly.
Before Sansa could greet the lord, Arya asked. "Why is he called the Black Lion? Sansa had an idea what that meant as her mother told her about her uncle "The Blackfish" Brynden Tully. Quickly Septa Mordane reminded Arya of her courtesies.
"It is a pleasure to meet you Lord Baelish" Sansa spoke as she wanted to get this over and talk about the Black Lion.
"You too my lady," Lord Baelish could see her impatience and greeted her with a creepy smile. "You look like your mother."
"You know my mother?" Sansa asked. Now she was interested in the man and what he talked about.
"Yes, I did my lady," Lord Petyr announced. "I was a friend of hers on Riverrun."
"Like I care," Arya complained. She could understand why. She wasn't interested that much by that fact. "Tell me about the Black Lion." Septa Mordane reminded her once again of her courtesies.
"I'm sorry my lord." Arya apologized but she didn't seem like she was sorry.
"There's nothing to forgive," Lord Petyr implied. "That man over there is the youngest son of Tywin Lannister Lord of Casterly Rock."
"But why is he named the Black Lion?" Arya again asked rudely.
"He was named this after the scandal that happened almost a decade ago," Lord Baelish said with a weary smile. "He was once proposed a betrothal to the Rose of Highgarden Margaery Tyrell but he refused," as he pointed to the beautiful woman in the stands. Sansa had never seen a woman more beautiful than her. She eclipsed the queens beauty but why would a man refuse her? She asked herself. Lord Baelish continued "Tywin Lannister said that he was a bigger fool than even the Blackfish and the Imp said I'll do you one better the Black Lion."
The tourney started Jaime Lannister "the Kingslayer" on one side and on the other his brother Loren Lannister "the Black Lion".
"100 gold dragons on the Kingslayer" announced Lord Petyr Baelish.
"I take you on that bet," Lord Renly said while waggling his eyebrows. "You haven't seen the Black Lion joust."
"But I have heard of him and how he beat Ser Loras Tyrell." Lord Petyr Baelish said with a curious smile.
The Kingslayer sent a kiss to the crowd and lowered his visor and waved at his brother the Black Lion. The Black Lion waved at the Royal Family and to his brother and lowered his visor.
She saw her father and he couldn't care less who won and he probably wanted the both of them to go down.
The horses matched their cloaks and armor. One was white with golden gilded armor while the other one was black with red gilded armor. The jousting began. The Black Lion had an excellent firm grip on the lance and his horse obeyed his every command while the Kingslayers grip was firm too his horse had been rather young and not used to him. The Black Lion used this to his advantage and charged full speed at the Kingslayer. And on the First Pass he brought down the Kingslayer. Everyone cheered around her and she was excited for the best part of a tourney crowning the Queen of Love and Beauty.
He grabbed the wreath of flowers and rode with his horse. The Black Lion passed his sister the Queen with jaws dropping from the crowd, he passed the Rose of Highgarden and the jaws opened even more. Then he stopped at her, raised his visor and leant to her and gazed at her. "You are the Queen of Love and Beauty, Sansa Stark." And then he crowned her with enormous cheers from the crowd
"Thank you, my lord" Sansa said as she blushed immensely as he looked at the handsome man in front of her. Long golden hair, green eyes and high cheekbones told that he was definitely a Lannister and by far for her the most beautiful Lannister she has met.
"It seems my uncle has a keen eye for beauty, sweet lady" Joffrey said as he appeared surprisingly and he kissed her hand. She looked back at his father and it looked like he had seen a ghost.
Sansa found her words. "He is too kind, my lord." Was she really that beautiful more beautiful then Queen Cersei and Margaery Tyrell? She didn't believe it herself.
After hours of drinking with her betrothed Sansa felt drunk but she flet she was drunk with the festivities around her. She loved the company of her betrothed she had a very nice time with him. She remembered when Sansa felt ready to return to the castle and she tried to leave but her prince cut her off.
"Do you want an escort to your chambers? Her prince asked seeming uncaringly.
Sansa tightened her lips and answered. "Yes, my prince."
"Dog escort my betrothed to the castle." Joffrey ordered while Sansa had a terrified look on her face.
As the Hound was about to arrive the Black Lion cut him off. "I think a lion is more feared than a dog. Shouldn't I escort her?" Loren argued and winked at her. "Don't you agree, nephew?"
"Perhaps you are right, uncle" Joffrey agreed as he looked away. "Anyway it looked like you didn't enjoy this feast as much as my dog had." Joffrey left with the Hound and then it was just her and him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, my lord." Sansa greeted the lord while blushing.
"The pleasure is all mine, my lady." Loren offered his arm and Sansa grabbed it tightly.
There was a short moment of silence as Sansa didn't know what to say to the lord. "I am honored that you named me," Sansa said as she avoided his green eyes. "The Queen of Love and Beauty."
"And I am glad you received it." Loren said with a playful smile.
"I was surprised you crowned me." Sansa admitted.
"I find it surprising," Loren insisted "That you were surprised you received it."
And then they arrived. Sansa was sad she had a pleasing time with Loren. He reminded her of the knights of the songs. He reminded her of Aemon Targaryen "The Dragonknight" and how he protected Naerys Targaryen from her husband Aegon the Unworthy.
"I think I must bid you a due," Loren announced. "Goodbye and Goodnight."
"Thank you, Ser Loren." Sansa nodded.
"I am not a knight." Loren retorted and left. How could he be the Dragonknight? When he wasn't even a knight and why would he have to protect her from his beloved Joffrey who was sweet and kind?
