Love for Life

This was love at first sight, love everlasting: a feeling unknown, unhoped for, unexpected--in so far as it could be a matter of conscious awareness; it took entire possession of him, and he understood, with joyous amazement, that this was for life. -Thomas Mann

Maybe it was fated that they meet again, Kazune thought, a hand clutching at his heart. His heartbeat was too fast, and That would be the only reason he knew that that girl... No, Suzuka, would meet him again was fate. Destiny. Kismet.

And at that moment, the moment she turned to face him with wide, green eyes, he knew it was love.

He did not think it was possible. He was, always in his own eyes, never good enough. Not good enough to live away from the shadow of his creator, not good enough to escape the shadow of the man he called 'father'.

He couldn't even really live normally, and Himeka was the most important person to protect right now. She was the one why he was trying so hard instead of just quietly wasting away into nothing.

And now...

Now -she- stood, solitary, her slim figure a silhouette in the rapidly darkening sky, now she mourned her beloved friend.

He thought she looked stunningly beautiful. Like a true goddess.

He wanted to shield her from the life both of them now led, the life that he had been following. It was too late for him, and he had a mission.

Karin... Karin was dragged into this life. Dragged but maybe not irrevocably so. Maybe, if he tried enough, he could shoulder her burden along with his, so she could lead a life without the Kamika.

He barely knew her, but he knew she was innocent of this. She did not know she had lived a life before.

And he fell for her, deeply. He loved her so, so much -- Nishikiori noticed, after all. Somehow, their love was different, yet somehow the same.

He got her away, hopefully to safety, when she decided to leap headfirst into his life again.

Karin, he found, was irritating at times. But he also found that he loved her all the same.

He loved her, and the worries and doubts and fears he felt were nothing compared to that.

They were there, they were in the present. There was no past to regret and the future was a thing of the future. Now they were together, now they protected.

Real strength comes from fighting to protect someone, he always heard.

Now, with Karin at his side and both of them trying to protect what was truly precious, he felt the strength returning to him, and he felt that saying come true.

He also knew that he'd love this girl for life.

He'd love this girl forever.
