Title: In the End
Summary: Sasuke finally comes back to Konoha.
Author's note: sings Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me! Although my bday was on October 23, I was a bit slow in posting this fic ;; And so, as a gift, I offer you a drabble! A REAL drabble! 302 words! After my utterly depressing fic from a few weeks ago, I decided to write something more uplifting. I think I succeeded… I'm still debating on that. Unlike the other one, however, this one really is SasuNaru! So enjoy! And review, because it's my bday… So yah… I deserve reviews…
In the end, he had come back by himself. In the end, they had sent the best of the best to retrieve him, but he had come back of his own free will. The Hokage knew what she was doing sending Naruto after him. Sakura knew what she was talking about when she had told Naruto he was the only one who could bring him back. Both women knew what they were thinking, but neither of them had the slightest idea what both men had been thinking, what their racing thoughts had been.
In the end, it was seeing Naruto beaten and bleeding that had brought him back. In the end, it was while he carried an unconscious Naruto in his arm, chakra spent and shock settling in, that he had snapped out of his crazed rampage.
After everything that had been said and done, all it had taken were a few, honest, heartfelt words to convince him where he was needed – where he belonged. All it had taken, after all these years, was a confession in the heat of anger and frustration and chapped lips on his as fists clenched his shirt and held him in place. All it had taken was for Naruto to make him see what had always been there. All it had taken was for Naruto to shake him awake and then collapse from his gaping wounds, making him hover over the blond in frantic worry checking for a pulse.
In the end he had returned to him village without accomplishing his task. In the end, he had come back with Naruto, just like the blond had promised Sakura all those years ago. In the end, he had come back to where he belonged – to whom he belonged.
In the end, he had come back for Naruto.
