A/N: yep, it's a songfic! It takes place right after Christian gets back to his garret after Roxanne. Satine is still with the Duke, and we all know what is happening to the poor Sparkling Diamond…
Christian walked slowly to his garret, his eyes welling up with tears. "Why does my heart cry, feelings I can't fight…you're free to leave me, but just don't deceive me and please believe me when I say, 'I love you'…" the words trailed off, his voice cracking and wavering. She was with the Duke. The Duke who wanted his own silly ending, with the courtesan choosing the maharajah. Toulouse was right. That didn't uphold the Bohemian ideals of Truth, Beauty, Freedom and…Love. Softly, he began to sing; the words taking hold of him subconsciously…
That boy took my love awayTho' he'll regret it someday
But this boy wants you back again
Why did she go to the Duke? To save us all, he thought stubbornly. But no matter how much he tried to convince himself that she loved him, he couldn't. He was jealous, and he knew it.
That boy isn't good for youTho' he may want you too
This boy wants you back again
The Duke won't give her anything. If Christian knew the Duke (and he was pretty sure he did), the Duke would only end up hurting his poor diamond, who had already been through so much…would she survive?
Oh and this boyWould be happy
Just to love you
But oh my-hi-hi-hi
That boy
Won't be happy
Till he's seen you cry-hi-hi-hi
Little did Christian know that at that very moment, the Duke was doing the unspeakable. While Christian sat brooding over Satine and the fact that they would not have their night together, Satine was struggling to release herself from the strong grasp of the Duke. The Duke pulled at her dress, ripping it off. Tears of anger and fear trickled down Satine's already pale face, sliding down her cheek. At the same time, similar tears graced the broken-hearted poet's once-happy face, weaving a trail of hurt and jealousy. All he wanted was Satine to return to him – his one and only love, his diamond. Whatever it took, he wanted her back.
This boy wouldn't mind the painWould always feel the same
If this boy gets you back again
This boy…this boy…this boy…
His voice trailed off, the song still hung in the air, a mood of pain, anger and jealousy surrounded him. Satine… the banging of a door opening brought him out of his reverie. There, standing before him, stood his beautiful Satine, tears streaming down her cheeks, dressed only in the undergarments of the dress, her body shaking. He saw Chocolat, the faithful servant, standing in the corner. Once again, Chocolat had saved Satine. Satine ran into Christian's arms, and he knew, truly, that this boy had her back again.
