Rays of Sunlight poured into the warriors den, Sandstorm stirred in her nest of moss, feathers and twigs. She sleepily stood and stretched her long limbs; yawning in the process. She gave her ruffled chest fur a few quick licks to smooth it down. Stepping out of the warriors den the sun shown in the aqua blue sky; making the she-cats ginger coat glow in the rays that covered the camp. Lush walls of greenery surrounded the camp so that almost no predator could get through without getting stuck in the thick vines that entangled themselves into the trees and shrubs around the camp. Sandstorm glanced around, warriors and apprentices hurried about chatting while doing their duties. Thornclaw and Brambleclaw were on their way out hunting. Berrypaw and Cloudtail were sharing tongues, while Brightheart was watching Fernclouds kit play fight in the entrance of the nursery.
She made her way over to her mate and the clan leader Firestar. The ginger tabby tom's pelt shown like a flame in the sun. He was talking to his daughter Squirelflight, who looked surprised as if she never thought it would happen. "No, I'm serious, there's something lurking in the woods by the lake. I and Dustpelt were on the dawn patrol and we scented it". Dustpelt came over to join in the conversation, "Yah, It smelled like crowfood and badger mixed together". Firestar looked genuinely confused. "Listen, I don't mean to sound rushed, but I think I will just go out there myself and look for it, but if there is nothing I can see or scent…" he paused looking at Squirelflight, then at Dustpelt. He continued "Then I don't want to here any more of it, understand?" He glanced once more at the frightened warriors. "Understood" they mewed as one. Firestar gave his paw a lick then swiped it over one ear as if something was bothering him.
"Are you okay" asked Sandstorm unsure of what to make of the scene. "Yeah, I'm okay. I just want to put a stop to this once and for all. I mean the naming ceremonies for Foxkit and Icekit are coming up, the gathering's tonight and who knows who's going to go, I just need to go somewhere to think that's all". She gave her mate a lick on his shoulder and affectionately rubbed her head along his neck. He purred, "Will you go with me to look for that….thing..Squirelflight was jabbering on about". She looked into his amber eyes "I would be delighted" she cooed.
