His dark blonde hair hung in his once-bright eyes, devoid of almost all life. Staring blankly out of his window, he tightly held the only two hopes left for the galaxy. The small bundles giggled, silencing his train of thoughts.
As he stared down at the newborn children, he felt a horrifying sense of loss... Padme Skywalker.
He slowly lowered his mellowed-eyes and let the tears fall freely down his tired face. Padme, his very dear friend of thirteen years, had passed away the night before, giving birth to the very lifeforms he now held in his capable arms.
The lovely leader of Naboo, that he had looked up to since he met her as a teenage Queen, was gone forever.
He had always loved her, but not like his former apprentice had loved her. No, he loved her like the little sister he never had. She had been so caring and beautiful. He had no doubt whatsoever in his mind that she would have made a fabulous mother, had she had the chance to live.
Pain filled his newly-broken heart as he wished, for the very first time in his life, that he could turn back time. To save Padme Amidala Naberrie Skywalker, to keep her alive, so she would be able to raise her precious children .
He knew that he would've raised them with her. He would've done whatever she wanted and asked. That was why he wasn't upset about the news of her relationship with his former best-friend and padawan. He knew she would've been deeply hurt is he had said anything hurtful about her secret husband. He understood that she had been deeply in love, and he accepted it perfectly. He knew she would never do anything she did not want to do.
His green eyes wandered back down to the now-peaceful twins, and for the first time, he examined them.
When he looked looked down at the young boy, he saw the splitting image of a fallen hero. The boy had light lue eyes with a small blonde curl atop his soft head.
Luke. She had named her baby boy Luke.
But he could not focus on the boy for much longer, because painful memories of a similar young boy filled his mind,
giving him more and more heartache.
Turning his pale face toward the small female, he could have sworn that he was looking at the infant version of the former Nubian queen herself. Her deep brown eyes were just like pools of everlating beauty and her head of hair was already a chocolate-brown color, her features perfectly imitating her angelic mother.
Fresh tears flooded down his face, as the two twins both drifeted off to sleep and dreams.
This should've been her moment. She should be able to hold the two wonderful beings that she had created with love.
For the first time in his life, he wished for the past and what could have been.
If only he could turn back time... If only.
