A fantasy story for Luke, It's not exact.. all I remember was the magical forest with the man eating elves and the quest for the big shiny orb which was on an island int eh middle of nowhere. Which the friendly purple tailed mermaid Maple and her co-horts, Sage and Rose helped the hero's dinghy go to the island.
And there in the island's volcano was the glowing orb. It was enchanted there so that only one of stout heart and great courage could get there. And after they got the orb... They took it back to the land of the King.
The King's powers were restored and he named the hero his successor.
