NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) takes place in April every year and challenges participants to write a poem every day for 30 days. To inspire and further challenge writers, there are prompts given that can be found on the NaPoWriMo website. The prompt for day 14 was to "write a poem as another person/character".

Power
Power-
the driving force
of the world,
is the essence of
me.
Those inferior creatures
that plead at my feet,
every inch of their bodies
quivering, quaking
with terror
are mere instruments,
steps to the ladder
that will simply give way
at the height of my climb.
No step is solid,
nor irreplaceable.
Though old doddering fools
and young lucky pawns
may deter my path
minutely,
there will be no stopping
my reign.
There is no other
who can stand atop
this ladder
of politics, wealth
and fear, so
poised, dignified,
as if the universe revolved
around him-
there is only one centre:
me.
