Authors note: I'm new to fanfiction so I'm still working out how to do things and such. All mistakes are my own and constructive criticism is welcomed :)
As for the story(more like a drabble), I came up with it while listening to Right Here Waitingby Richard Marx. Yeah it's a little random and I'm still not sure where I was trying to go with this but oh well, here it is :p
Music flowed through the loft, a sweet song Kate knew by heart. She found herself singing along with the lyrics, forgetting, if only for a moment, the harsh reality of life.
Her gaze shifted upwards, green eyes meeting blue. She continued singing as Castle approached her, his features soft in the dimly lit room. He gently placed her hands in his and guided her closer. They swayed to the soft melody, completely engulfed in their own world. Castle guided them across the floor with a grace only a natural dancer could accomplish. Kate smiled and let out a small laugh when he twirled and dipped her. He grinned, no doubt feeling that that one laugh was a major victory. They continued on like this, each not ready to face the inevitable.
Eventually Castle's smile faded and his normally bright and joyous eyes grew dim and sad. Kate swallowed the lump in her throat, controlling the tears that threatened to overcome her.
"So this is it?" she asked, words barely audible.
He didn't respond. He didn't need to, his eyes said everything.
She took a shaky breath. This was it.
"Wait for me?"
He smiled, a genuine smile full of love and promise.
"Always."
She watched him step away from her, his deep blue eyes glowing as a single tear trailed down his cheek. She blinked and he was gone, just as quickly as he had come. An emptiness engulfed her and her heart felt heavy in her chest. A part of her wanted to give up, end this horrible agony, but a larger part of her knew Castle would want her to keep on living. He had loved life and she wanted to honor that by loving life too. It would be hard, but not impossible because this was not the end of their story.
There was still so much more to tell.
