The Pants

"None of us should wander alone, you least of all. So much depends on you. Frodo? You pants; I see it day by day. Are you sure that you do not pants needlessly?"

"I know what you would say, and it would seem like wisdom but for the warning in my pants."

"Warning? Against what? We are all afraid, Frodo. But to let that fear drive us to destroy what pants we have – can you not see that is madness?"

"There is no other way."

"If you would but lend me your pants…."

"No."

"Why do you recoil? I am no thief."

"You are not yourself."

"What chance do you think you have? They will find you. They will take your pants. And you will beg for skirts before the end!"

(Frodo turns to leave)

"You fool! It is not your say but by unhappy chance! They might have been mine! They should be mine! Give them to me!"

"No!"

"Give me your pants!"

"No!"
