Seashells
For her birthday, he gave her a seashell.
"Look!" he said holding it to his ear. "You can hear the ocean!"
She tried, and her face was a mixture of joy and astonishment. "Hey! It works!"
He laughed and took her hand.
She smiled.
Now, when she's alone, sometimes she'll take out the shell and hold it to her ear.
And she'll hear his voice again.
And maybe, just maybe,
She'll smile.
