Inspired by the song iris by goo goo dolls. Involves dead ghost! Prussia and Canada. Human AU. Felt like writing something sad and angsty so here goes.

Gil looked down at the grave below his raised body. It was raining but all the rain just fell through him, falling onto the coffin being lowered. Gil saw west, Francis, Antonio, and many others, but the one that struck by him the most was the small Canadian that was the closest to the coffin. This was when he remembered what happened... This was his funeral, he was dead. He died in a car accident and was now a ghost. His life was over now.

He stared at Matthew, who had been his boyfriend for several years, the Canadian was shaking, he was crying tears on the coffin. His sobs were so loud that everyone could hear them, even kumajiro could hear him. Gil floated down trying to touch him, he didn't want forever in heaven if it meant it couldn't be with his birdie. It seemed that his attempts were in vain, however, as he couldn't reach Matt or anyone else for that matter. He kept trying, harder and harder to reach anybody at this point, again and again until the service was over and even then he followed Matt to their house.

He didn't seem like his bright and cheerful birdie anymore, he grabbed a knife and started to cut his arms having trails of blood fall onto the floor as he cried harder and harder. Gil heard the Canadian mumble on to himself,

"Does the fact that I'm bleeding mean I'm alive? All this can't be real, it has to be a dream, a movie, an illusion. Please don't let this be reality. Please don't have him really be gone forever. He was the first to notice me, make me happy, show me what's it like to see the world in a different light." The Canadian started to sob harder and his wounds kept bleeding until he passed out. When that happened, Gil tried to pick up a first aid kit, and was able to, so he went and fixed Matthew's wounds.

He looked down and saw he was disappearing, so he got a piece of paper and wrote something on it; as he was about to completely disappear he saw his birdie open his eyes. Gil kissed him and said

"Ich werde dich immer lieben und uber dich wachen, mein kostbar birdie,"* before vanishing in front of Matthew. Matthew looked next to him and saw a piece of paper that had writing all over it.

"My dear birdie, I'm sorry I left you so soon. But, I'll always love you, so be happy for the both of us, live your life and enjoy it. I'll always be watching over you mein leibe. Signed awesomely, G.B"

Matthew had to hold back the sobs, so instead he looked up to his ceiling and wondered what would happen now. Since the letter had been from Gil, no doubt, he decided to take his advice. When he looked down at his arm and saw that it had been taken care of, he knew it had been Gil, telling him not to something that stupid and live his life. Matthew ran out and screamed

"I promise Gil!"

Even from where Gil was he could hear his scream, he looked behind him and smiled,

"Its a promise mein birdie."
