House of Idiots
"No," said Patricia, crossing her arms.
"Oh, come on, Yacker," said Eddie, sending her a pleading glance which Patricia shot down with a withering glare.
"Yeah, come on, Yacker," smirked Jerome. The looked Patricia gave him was far from joking and he shrank back behind Joy who sniggered into her hand.
"For old time's sake," added Alfie.
"At what point in 'old times' did we ever do this?" Patricia said. "I'm not going to jump into the river."
"Stop being such a spoilsport," said Fabian despairingly. "It's not like we're asking you to even get your hair wet…"
"Are you suggesting I'm not going in because I'm too scared of getting my hair wet?" asked Patricia disbelievingly, eyes flashing.
Fabian, sensing he had made a breakthrough, started on his suicide mission: "Obviously," he said in a 'well, duh' voice that he knew riled Patricia no end. "Aren't you?"
"No!" Patricia looked around the group; "You know I'm not chickening out, right?"
"Well…" said Joy, twisting a strand of hair around her finger thoughtfully.
"I think it's a little cowardly," added Mara, biting back a smirk. "But we won't hold it against you if you're really that worried about your appearance."
"I suppose jumping into the river would be a little close to the edge, probably the most dangerous thing we've ever done," grinned KT, exchanging a laughing look with Eddie. "I don't blame Patricia for trying to be the good girl."
That did it.
No one accused Patricia of being a good girl and got away without being proven completely and utterly wrong. So wrong that they didn't just eat their words but were forced to lick the crumbs.
KT had just crossed a line.
To be fair, they should have really seen it coming.
Within five minutes the soon-to-be-ex occupants of Anubis House were sprinting through the woods surrounding the school, laughing and kicking up mud and splattering themselves all over with filth.
Low hanging branches dangled whipped against their faces and twigs caught in their hair. Running through trees in the middle of the night hadn't been their best idea, decided KT as she was slapped across the middle by a huge trunk.
Soon, the bubbling of the stream could be heard even over the yells of Eddie as Patricia hauled him by the hand and he half-protested even though he knew Patricia would get him into that water – saying she was strong-willed would be an understatement – whether he complained or not.
And did complain. Vehemently.
I did not make one iota of difference.
This was going to be longer but I lost my mojo, so... here it is :) Please review!
