"An Unsung Love"

She was soft and fragile like newly fallen snow, somehow always managing to bleed into his veins and fill his body with her infectious spirit.

To Willie Loomis, Maggie Evans was a disease, for she had plagued him with her bewitching amber eyes, soft refined features, and musically amiable laughter. He'd give her everything if he could, but alas, this was where his love was stinted, for if they were to be anything more, her life would be placed in between the delicate balance of life and death. Although it greatly pained Willie to see his sweet Maggie arm in arm with another man, he loved her enough to uphold her happiness above his own. With Joe she would be properly cared for…with Joe she would be safe.

Standing outside the Evans' cottage as the snow fell in silvery flecks against the earth, Willie placed a hand against one of the French doors before giving a soft smile. Maggie was reading a novel and sitting at her vanity, her delicate features almost seeming to glow amidst the warmth of the room. She was so beautiful…

Still smiling, Willie withdrew an item from his coat pocket before placing it down at his feet, his hand now rapping loudly against the door before he noticed Maggie rise from her vanity in surprise. Panicking, Willie turned and took off for the nearest tree, his breath turning into silvery puffs as he leaned slightly forward to see what would happen next.

Maggie was now standing outside in bewilderment, her hands rubbing her arms for warmth as she curiously glanced around her. Where had the mystery caller gone off to?

Finally giving up, Maggie turned around and caught sight of a beautiful, yet delicate object at her slippered feet. Carefully picking it up off the ground, she smiled once she realized it was a red rose. For the past three years she'd been receiving roses from an unknown admirer, and she was beginning to wonder if she'd ever learn his name.

Sighing with slight disappointment over not discovering his identity, Maggie moved to go back inside just as Willie came out from behind the tree. His eyes softened as he realized that she'd yet again accepted his gift, for to him that meant she loved him – even if it was just a little – and to a man so jaded and lonely as himself, he knew it was her happiness alone that he lived for.

A/N: Wow, that was kinda depressing for Valentine's Day...oh well! lol
