Summary: The Konoha council sends Naruto on a mission into the heart of Sound. Unbeknownst to them, Naruto has made contact already with one of Orochimaru's own ninja. Upset at the village's betrayal of Naruto, the ninja decides to help Naruto complete his mission.

Betrayal
Prologue
A lone figure stood in the middle of Team Seven's training ground. His blue eyes sparkled with determination. He kept his gaze locked on the forests edge, ignoring the others, as one by one the rest of the Rookie Twelve landed behind him. He also ignored the female voice that cried out for him not to go. They didn't understand, he had no choice, if things had been different, then he wouldn't have to do this. He strode determinedly towards his fate, the battle that would decide it all, just like he had planned all those months ago.
He paused, briefly, to say a silent goodbye, and then just like the shadow he had become, he was gone.
