Lights Will Guide You Home

Chanukah used to be Tali's favourite time of year. Since Tali's death Ziva often could not find the spirit to celebrate it. It was one of the minor holidays on the Jewish calendar, anyway. So, even when missions and mossad were not in the way of her celebrating the holiday, Ziva did not celebrate. She saw no point. Hanukkah was for families. She had no family.

That changed when she came to America. In America, Hanukkah was much bigger in America, mostly because of its proximity to Christmas. Ziva could not escape Happy Holiday's displays in shop windows with a menorah in front of Christmas tree. It did not help matters that the first night of Hanukkah, the year she arrived in Washington D.C, was also Christmas day.

In the end it was Ducky who led her to celebrate Hanukkah again. He invited her to Christmas dinner at his house with most of the team. He had promised her that the evening celebrations would reflect both Christmas and Hanukkah equally but insisted she not spend the whole day alone.

She arrived at Ducky's lavish house to find Tony sorting through a box of decorations. She found Abby in a Christmas sweater icing Christmas cookies. It was then she noticed a beautiful menorah. It was simply designed and had a Star of David in the middle of it.

"It's beautiful," she whispered as she leant forward to touch it.

"Jennifer mentioned you were not very big on Hanukkah," the doctor uttered. Ziva nodded, slightly ashamed.

"I think maybe I should change that," Ziva replied. She looked out the window, up at the setting sky. Ducky handed her a box of matches.

She whispered the prayers of her childhood over the candle as she lit it.

"Happy Hanukkah, Tali," she then whispered.
