From Zaroff's Island to Gilligan's

He had never slept in a better bed.

I had thought these words almost every day since I got off that godforsaken island. And how glad I was to be rid of it! I was surprised at Whitney's determination to find me once he realized I had gone missing. He searched for days, trying to think of where I could have possibly fallen off. He finally found me, lying on the beach, waiting to die.

General Zaroff had been dead for maybe two days. I had no food and his "pupils" were getting on my nerves. When I saw the yacht on the horizon, I thought I was hallucinating. Whitney helped me aboard and gave me a meal while I told him of my dreadful stay on the island. I made him promise never to tell anyone.

We arrived home, and I decided that, even with my recent encounter with the island, I wanted to have the hunting trip of which I was deprived. So Whitney and I gathered supplies and, in order to avoid a repeat of my falling off the yacht, we took a helicopter to search for islands for hunting.

We traveled for hours, trying to decide on the right one. We finally decided on a relatively small island with a lagoon.

"Are you sure you want to go hunting already?" Whitney asked. He must have been amazed that I could walk away from Zaroff's island without despising hunting at all.

"Positive," I replied. I still greatly enjoyed hunting. If anything, my love for the hunt had increased immensely lately.

We were surprised to find people on the island when we landed. We talked to them for a while and found out they were marooned on this island as I was on Zaroff's. I promised to take them back to civilization as soon as my hunt was over.

"There isn't any game here," one of them told me.

"None whatsoever?" I asked with a sliver of hope, even though I knew the answer.

"None," the same gangly-looking young man replied.

I sulked for a few seconds while contemplating what to do next when I had an idea. Since we were there, we might as well do what we came to do. We would just have to make a few adjustments.

And so the hunt began.
