Okay, not going to lie, this is the first thing I've written in over a year.
So please excuse me if it's not very good, or if parts of it don't make sense.
Also, I haven't read the manga in about three years so I know for a fact it's not totally accurate. I can't remember if Light lost his memory of the death note while he was in the cell or if that was later, but for all intensive purposes here he hadn't.
Please feel free to review and let me know what you thought!
L sat with his legs tucked underneath him, leaning forward onto the control panel in front of him. Light breaths passed his lips as he slept, snoring quietly.
It was 3am, and Light was still awake, handcuffs holding his arms behind him. He was exhausted, but he couldn't keep his eyes closed long enough to drift off. The sight of L asleep, vulnerable, beautiful, was addicting.
Not to mention the fact that he had commanded Misa to find out L's real name and kill him, orders that could not be revoked. He would have had to speak to her directly, which he had not been able to do. And so oftentimes he spent his nights counting L's breaths, A slight panic turning his stomach over if they went a bit irregular.
He couldn't deny that he had developed strong feelings for the man since they had begun spending time together. Whenever he was out of his cell he was handcuffed to L, and all the time he was in the cell he was being interrogated. All those hours in close proximity factored with L's unbelievably cute personality lead to a crush that was slightly over the line into love.
So he sat counting L's breaths.
In… one two three… out… one two three…
Tonight, though, something distracted him. A door creaked open and Misa walked in, donning a tight corset and lace panties that she was inevitably using to try to entice Light.
She wasn't supposed to be here. L would catch her and know something was up. But maybe this would be good, he would finally be able to talk to her about not killing L. After all, if she was dumb enough to come in here while L was sleeping he might as well get…
"Light! Light, I did it!" She squealed, running towards him.
"What do you mean? Be quiet or you'll wake L!" He hissed back.
"Doesn't matter now! He'll be asleep for good in a minute!" She pranced over and grabbed the cell keys from the table, causing L to be startled awake.
"What?" Light asked, praying he had heard her incorrectly.
"Lawliet Ryuzacki! I told you I could do it, Light! Aren't you so proud of me?"
"You… wrote his name in the…" The world began spinning, crashing around him, a lump in his throat preventing him from speaking further.
"Light. What is going on?" L asked, going unheard.
"I did! You're so proud of me, aren't you? I bet you love me that much more."
"Why did you do that? No, no, I didn't want you to! He…I…"
L opened his mouth as if to speak and collapsed, taking his last carefully counted breath.
Misa unlocked the cell, running over to hug him. He let her and, once she was done, he lay down on the wide bench in the cell.
"..What's going on? Light? This is what you wanted. You wanted me to write his name down, I remember you telling me so!"
"Misa, can you do me one last thing?"
"Of course, Light. Isn't that what a girlfriend does? I love you after all, I'll do anything!"
"Write my name down right next to his."
Misa didn't want to, of course. But she could tell he was serious, and she didn't want to upset him any further. She walked into the bedroom and brought back the Death Note and pen, sitting next to him on the bench.
"D… do you really want me to do this, Light?"
"If you love me at all you will."
She nodded and slowly wrote out his name before walking away and leaving him to die.
And somewhere in Southern Japan in a rather fancy five-star hotel, there is a notebook of Death with two names written in girly scrawl across the page, one right after the other, just as Light had wanted.
