Thrill Seeker
There were few things that could faze Professor Sycamore, besides Targent and people not comprehending his jokes. But Sycamore did a double take when he discovered Raymond sitting idly on the Bostonius's sofa, rather than at his usual position at the helm.
"R-Raymond?" he gasped. "If you're here then who is piloting the ship?"
"That would be Miss Altava," his butler replied simply, petting a purring Keats. "She wanted to take the wheel for a while."
"And you let her-?" Suddenly, Sycamore was knocked clean off his feet as the airship veered to the side. Raymond and Keats hung on to the sofa for dear life. (Sycamore was too shocked to even chide the cat for digging his claws into the pillows.) The startled cries of Aurora, Luke and Professor Layton could be heard:
"W-what is happening?"
"I feel sick, Professah..."
"Remain calm, everyone!"
Gritting his teeth, Sycamore stood up and staggered to the front of the airship, dodging any items that had been disturbed by the abrupt jolt. (At least the Azran eggs were still intact.) He saw the culprit behind the wheel, driving his precious Bostonius like a madwoman.
"Emmyyyyyyyy!" Sycamore yelped as she steered the airship at an absurd angle again.
She turned to smile at him, taking her eyes off the sky. "Hi, Professor Sycamore... Wow, you're looking green."
"W-what are you doing?"
"I thought Raymond could use a break."
"Have you even flown an airship before?" Sycamore demanded.
"No, but I've flown a plane before. How different can it be—?" Emmy's eyes widened as she returned her gaze to the front window. "Uh oh... MOUNTAINS DEAD AHEAD!"
Sycamore peeked out the window. His jaw dropped. They were indeed headed straight into a mountain range. (The Alps by the look of it.) "Turn left, right now!" the professor barked.
"Left... right... what did you say?"
"LEFT!"
"Alright, keep your bread hair on," Emmy jerked the wheel sharply to the left, yet the mountains remained imposingly in their path. The rock face seemed set with jagged teeth, ready to swallow the Bostonius.
Keats screeched, "MEEEEEOOOOOOW!"
"If there are any Azran deities above, I beg that they save us," Aurora whimpered.
"Professah," Luke wailed. "I'm so sorry— I was the one who ate your mother's cherry pie!"
"It doesn't matter, my boy! You've undoubtedly reached the standards of a true gentleman in my eyes!""
Even Emmy was panicking now. "W-we're not going to make it...!"
In an instant, Sycamore's demeanour became deadly calm; he shut out all the noise and the concern and the incoming peril. He moved his arms around Emmy's waist to grab the wheel with her. "I have sacrificed too much for us to perish here. We will make it," he vowed. "Together."
Strengths combined, they heaved the wheel down together. Emmy hadn't realised she'd squeezed her eyes shut, but when she finally opened them she let out a shaky laugh of relief. "We did it!" The Bostonius had evaded the mountains and would live to fly another day.
"This isn't funny," Sycamore glared at her. "Your little stunt endangered our lives and our mission. I'd better not catch you at the helm again."
"Lighten up, Professor," Emmy met his glare with a grin. "Sure, it was a close call, but have you ever experienced such a thrill?"
"...I suppose not," Sycamore admitted. He did enjoy thrills.
[[On a random note, I just noticed something. The PL filters have been updated to include some characters, which is great. But where the heck is AURORA and the other Azran Legacy characters?]]
