In the Dark of the Night

A/N: This is a rewrite of my story "Who Killed Yami".
Summary: A year after Yami's death, detectives Joey Wheeler and Mai Valentine investugate his murder.Their task gets more and more complicated when they discover that all the suspects for the murder were also killed in the same night. They realize that they can only solve this mystery with Seto Kaba's help, who is the sole survivor of that night, but who doesn't seem willing to share the truth.

Chapter 1: A Year Later
Seto Kaiba was sitting near his pool in his summerhouse. It was summer now and he had a lot of time to relax. However his relaxing time was interrupted by one of the maids.
"Sir, you have two guests" the maid said. Seto turned around and saw two blonde people behind the maid. He didn't know them.
"They say they are detectives sir…" the maid said and left.
"And you are…?" Seto said.
"Detective Mai Valentine and detective Joey Wheeler" Mai told him. Joey was looking at the house and then he looked at Seto sitting near his pool, wearing some very expensive white clothes and sunglasses.
"What do you want?" Seto asked them.
"We are currently investigating the murder of Yami Mutoh. We were informed that you knew him" Mai said. "Were you two close?"
"Hardly"
"Did you know any of his friends? Their names are Tea Gardner, Marik Ishtar, Ryou Bakura and Maximillion Pegasus"
"Why are you asking?" he asked her.
"Because they were also found dead," Mai answered.
"Really?"
"Yes, Marik Ishtar was found on the stairs at the entrance of Pegasus' castle stabbed on the back. However, the knife wasn't found anywhere near him. In fact it was found in the castle next to Yugi Mutoh's hanged body. Even though we did find the knife, we never found the gun.
"And the others?" Seto asked.
"Tea Gardner was found dead in the dinning room. It seems that her killer strangled her. We didn't manage to find Mr. Pegasus' body yet and Mr. Bakura's body was surprisingly found on the helicopter base of the island."
"Oh…was he shot too?" Kaiba asked.
"No, he was poisoned."
"And Yugi?"
"We found him hanging right above Yami's body", Joey answered.
"As you can understand we are missing a lot of information to understand what happened that night. We hope that you will help us put all the pieces of the puzzle together and solve the case…"
"How do you want me to help you?" Seto asked.
"We know that you were there that night" Joey told him "so tell us what happened"
"Well, Pegasus had invited us all for dinner. It was unexpected, you see we weren't the best of friends"
"Did you notice anything unusual that night?" Mai asked him.
Just the blood, the dead bodies, a gun firing two times, Tea crying, Marik and Bakura fighting to death, Pegasus screaming, the sound of an helicopter leaving the island…
"No, I didn't" Seto answered.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, but you must understand that it's been a year since then. I have forgotten the details"
A/N: Those of you that had read "Who Killed Yami" already know more details about what happened after that party. Anyways…
