Hello! (Waves) I'm not dead, just busy. A few days after finals and school were over, I started working at a camp, so I can't diddle around as much as I would like. And soon the Harry Potter movie and book are coming out, (!!!!!) so I'm rereading the entire series, which also takes a chuck of time. I've been working on a Zemyx and a Roxine for ages, so two stories should be up as soon as I find some extra free time.

Anyway, this is extremely short, mainly because there's no plot and the idea was fully formed in my head in about five minutes.

Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts.

Zexion tried to stifle a shiver next to him, failing miserably. Tearing his eyes away from the color explosions, Demyx pulled one of the earphones that they were sharing out of his ear and took off his sweatshirt, offering it to his friend. Zexion shook his head and Demyx smirked, tossing it at him.

"You need it more than me," he said, "and besides, I like the rain."

Zexion, glowering, snatched it off of his head and, after a brief hesitation, pulled it over his head, yanking the hood up to protect his face. Demyx flinched as the light rain fell cold on his skin, but soon adjusted. If there was one thing he didn't mind, it was water.

Their Fourth of July was held to the standard of the others before it. Zexion picked Demyx up at a reasonable hour and the ate at a French restaurant, which had ridiculously good breakfast. After, they rented a movie that exploited American flaws, this year's film was Fahrenheit 9/11, and watched it at Demyx's house. His family was rarely about to annoy them or get in their way, so his house was the optimum choice. For dinner, they ordered Chinese and ate, or tried to eat, with chopsticks. This year, it was raining lightly, yet the fireworks exploded as though it were a clear night.

He flipped his wet bangs out of his eyes and, replacing his earphone, inched closer to Zexion.

So that the earphone won't fall out, he justified in his head. This was bull and he knew it.

Demyx pulled his knees to his chest, clasping his hands between his calves and thighs. If he ignored his stomach's nervous drops, he was perfectly content. Slowly, he turned his head to look at Zexion. Making eye contact, he smiled earnestly, revealing the goofy grin that he'd become known for. When Zexion returned the smile, he showed a few perfectly aligned teeth, causing Demyx's grin to grow wider. He often chastised Zexion for his weak, almost meaningless, half smiles. He could see the fireworks reflected in his eyes.

After a moment, he reluctantly looked away to the dancing colors in the sky. And then he realized something.

Nothing else mattered. He ought to forget that his family was ridiculously dysfunctional and his fear about going away to college that fall without Zexion at his side whenever he needed him and that he was madly in love with said best friend. What really mattered was that moment, then, sitting on a hill by his house with Zexion and watching the fireworks.

Impulsively, he threw his arms sideways around Zexion's neck, causing the latter to start.

"Tell me that it's not important and to forget about it."

"It's not important. Forget about it," he answered without a moment's hesitation. Demyx grinned and leaned his head on his shoulder after removing his arms. Zexion smirked and placed an arm around his waist in a subtle sort of return of affection, squeezing momentarily. Demyx laughed, being extremely ticklish, and squirmed away. They caught each other's eyes and burst into laughter, resulting in Demyx nearly rolling down the hill, which made them laugh even harder.

And the grand finale started to bang bright, beautiful colors.

Thanks for reading. Please, please, please review. And happy Fourth of July, for those in America, a day late.
