Trigger warning: This chapter contains blood and foul language
I just stood where I was, horrified at the sight in front of me. Tamaki, one of my best friends, who has been there for me since the beginning, was leaning up against the railing with a knife in his chest. A knife that "I" stabbed him with.
I stared down at my bloody hands, evidence of the crime I just did. I felt my breathing began to quicken and it felt like I couldn't get any air to my lungs. I didn't remember anything after getting ready for Haruhi's goodbye party, but here I was, trying to kill Tamaki, and for what? I had no reason to do it.
I moved my hands to my hair, causing my hands to brush against my face, leaving blood. I gripped my hair tightly as I screamed, a trail of tears emerging from under my dark red mask.
"What did I just do?! What the fuck did I just do?!" I screamed.
I stabbed him, I really stabbed him. How could I do this? I've never done anything like this, nor did I ever wanted to. Tamaki is my friend and I fucking stabbed him in the chest!
The sound of Tamaki coughing immediately caught my attention. I looked over at him and saw that he was still breathing, but his breaths were ragged. He was still alive!
"Tono!" I ran over to him and knelt down beside him. "You're alive, thank God." I cried, more tears falling down my face. "I'm so sorry Tono. I don't know what happened. I'm really fucking sorry."
I looked at the big kitchen knife that was in his chest. I couldn't take it out, it could make the bleeding worse. I had to get him help, if I didn't he was definitely going to die. It made me sick to my stomach just thinking about it.
"Don't worry Tono. I'll call an ambulance. You're going to be ok." I began searching around my dark red suit for my phone, searching through all my pockets. When I finally found my phone in my pants pocket I pulled it out and unlocked it before quickly dialing 911.
"911 please state your emergency." The operator on the other line said.
"M-My friend has been stabbed." I stuttered out a response as I sat down next to Tamaki. "I need someone down here immediately."
"Can you give me your location please?"
"Ouran academy high school. The Central Banquet Hall."
"Do you know how he was stabbed?" I swallowed the lump in my throat as more tears began to fall as I looked at one of my blood covered hands. "Sir?"
"I did it…"
"What was that?"
"I did it." I repeated softly. "I'm the one who stabbed him."
"Do you know why you did it?" The operator asked.
"No," I answered, "I don't remember stabbing him."
"You don't remember?"
"No…"
"Then are you sure that you're the one who stabbed him?"
"My hands are covered in his blood." I said as I cried harder. "Is someone coming?"
"Yes, I just informed the police and paramedics about your situation."
The word police sent a chill down my spine as I began to cry even harder, almost at the point of breaking down. "I'm going to jail, aren't I?"
The operator didn't answer my question and asked me one of her own. "Would you mind giving me your name?"
"Hikaru."
"Is your friend still breathing Hikaru?"
I looked over at Tamaki and saw that his chest was rising up and down, indicating that he was still breathing from the last time I check.
"Yes he is, but his breathing is ragged."
What she asked next I didn't quite catch when the sound of familiar laughter hit my ears. I got up on my knees and looked over the railing towards the courtyard and saw Kaoru and Haruhi walking with each other, oblivious to what I had just did. Kaoru must've wanted to talk to Haruhi alone before she left for Boston in two days. I had to get Kaoru's help. He might hate me for what I've done but I can't do this on my own. I didn't know what to do.
"I have to go." I told the operator.
"No wait Hikaru you have to stay on the-"
I hung up the phone before she could finish what she was saying then went back over to Tamaki. His head was leaning on the railing, his cheek on his shoulder as if he was about to fall asleep.
"Hey, hey," I grabbed his face with one of my hands and forced him to look at me. His blue eyes were half open, "don't fall asleep on me, ok? I'm going to go get Kaoru for help. Just promise me you'll stay awake." Tamaki weakly nodded and mumbled something inaudible in response. "Again I'm so sorry Tono, but I promise you're going to make it through this then after you're all better you won't ever have to see me again."
Because I'll most likely be in jail…
Tamaki mumbled something again but I still couldn't make it out. I let go of his face and he leaned his head up against the railing again. My eyes immediately fell on his cheek where I had left a bloody hand print. I could feel my heart and breathing began to quicken again at the sight but I tried my best to calm myself down. It was not the right time for another panic attack. I had to get Tamaki help.
"I'll be back as soon as possible. Just remember not to fall asleep, alright?"
Tamaki just nodded and I stood up before running over to the door and unlocking it. I opened the door a crack so my head could just fit and I looked down both sides of the hall to see if anyone was there. I needed to get help but I didn't want someone stopping me and ask why I'm covered in blood. When I saw that the coast was clear I slipped into the hallway and ran as fast as I could down the hall towards the courtyard.
Kaoru
Kaoru and Haruhi strolled through the courtyard. They got paired up for the game, which Kaoru was really happy about. He wanted to spend as much time with Haruhi before she left for Boston. Even though he and the rest of the host club were going to surprise her and Tamaki by showing up in Boston as well it still made him sad that she was leaving.
He did however feel bad for Hikaru. It was clear that he still had a feelings for Haruhi and Kaoru was hoping that he would've been paired together with her, but he seemed really happy to be paired up with Tamaki, which was kinda weird. Hikaru and Tamaki were friends, but they wouldn't have chosen to work together because they usually bump heads with almost everything. Especially after they both found out that they were in love with Haruhi, and knowing that Haruhi confessed to Tamaki it broke Hikaru.
After they came home that day from the airport he went into their room and didn't come out for the rest of the day. Kaoru didn't want to disturb him so he just left him alone until he knew that his brother was asleep, but the next morning Hikaru for some reason seemed bright and cheery (which he was never like in the morning), like he didn't even remember Haruhi confessing to Tamaki, and it weirded Kaoru out. When he brought up the confession to him Hikaru would just give him a blank stare, as if he didn't know what he was talking about, but then he would respond in a monotone voice, "I know."
But at school it was even weirder, he acted like he was almost a completely different person. He complimented the couple all day saying that they were great together and how happy he was for them, however during Host Club hours his mood drastically changed. They were dressed up in their Ancient Greece apparel and tried their usual twincest act to please their guests, but Hikaru seemed distracted. His full attention was on Tamaki and Haruhi. When Kaoru tried to draw his attention back Hikaru would only look over, apologize, then after a few minutes would look back at the couple, but when Tamak kissed Haruhi's cheek when he thought no one was watching Hikaru snapped.
He grabbed a small butter knife that was on the table and charged towards the couple and punched Tamaki, cutting his face with the knife. Before he could do anything else Mori grabbed him. He began screaming that he was going to kill Tamaki and struggled in Mori's grip, trying to get out. Then he finally snapped out of it when Haruhi yelled at him. His expression seemed confused, like he didn't know what was going on and grew horrified when he saw that he hurt Tamaki, and dropped the knife before running away.
But what haunted Kaoru the most was when they were spying on Tamaki and Haruhi on their first date at the theme park. Hikaru had wandered off somewhere saying that he was tired and was going to rest for a bit. However when Kaoru found him in the hall of mirrors he was sitting on the floor, looking terrified at his reflection. Kaoru wanted to ask him what happened but there was no time because Tamaki and Haruhi were on the move so he thought he would ask him about it later, but as they left the hall of mirrors he noticed Hikaru's eyes were dark. Not just in color, but as if he had no light in them at all, no emotion.
For the rest of the day Hikaru seemed to act pretty normal, even helping to stop the Zuka Club from ruining the date, but Kaoru knew something was off about him and he sometimes had to force Hikaru to distract to Zuka Club until Tamaki and Haruhi were gone because it seemed like he didn't care. It felt like he wanted to see the date fail.
His eyes however remain dark for the rest of the day and his personality changed. He wasn't the normal cheery, mischievous Hikaru that Kaoru knew all his life, but was an emotionless shell that didn't care about anything that was going on. The only emotion that he saw was anger in his eyes. Kaoru knew that Hikaru had a temper but this was far different. It looked like he was ready to attack and kill someone. It also felt like he was a completely different person, as if Kaoru was talking to a stranger instead of his twin.
He was back to normal now but for how long? Maybe his family should start making Hikaru see a therapist again? That seemed to help him when he acted out in middle school, but he highly doubt that Hikaru would agree to it and say that he's fine and that there's nothing to worry about, but it was clear that he wasn't.
Haruhi noticed how silent Kaoru was being. She looked over at him and saw even behind his blue mask that his eyebrows were forwarded in thought and he had a slight frown on his face. She had rarely seen him make that expression. He only did if he was extremely worried about something.
"Are you alright Kaoru?" Haruhi asked.
Kaoru blinked a bit as he broke out of his thoughts and his expression softened as he looked down at Haruhi.
"Huh?"
"Are you alright? You had this look on your face as if you were deep in thought and worried about something."
He stared at her face for a couple seconds before plastering on a fake smile and began laughing as he patted her on top of her head. "I'm fine, really. I was just daydreaming, that's all."
Haruhi readjusted the long brown wig on her head along with the pink headband that matched the frilly pink dress she had to change into.
"Kaoru I know something is wrong. You always give the same smile when you try to hide what's actually going on. Its obvious there is something on your mind that's bugging you. You know that you can talk to me, right?"
Kaoru's smile fell and he looked into her eyes past her pink masquerade mask. He bit his lip, he wouldn't mind telling her what was on his mind if he wasn't afraid that her opinion of his brother might change. She's never really seen Hikaru's bad side, only parts of it. He didn't want to scare her away from his brother because he knew that would crush Hikaru probably beyond repair. But if he did somehow get Hikaru a therapist the other club members might wonder why he suddenly needed sessions. Maybe it would be the best to tell Haruhi a bit what was on his mind, but not enough to scare her away from his brother.
He sighed before responding to her. "It's Hikaru, I'm starting to worry about him. I think he's-"
"Kaoru!"
Kaoru stopped mid-sentence and turned towards the direction where his name was called. Immediately he saw twin brother running up to them, with what looked like blood on his hands and shirt. Kaoru's eyes widened and began to panic seeing his brother with blood on him.
"Hikaru are you alright?!" He asked as his brother ran up to him. "Why is there blood on you?! Did you get hurt?!"
"N-No, bu-but I...I'm the one…" He stumbled over his words.
"Hikaru if there's something wrong you have to tell me."
Haruhi walked up to be next to both of them and looked at Hikaru, noticing the blood on him. "Is this part of the game? Were you the knight and found the king?"
"What game? I don't-"
"Oh thank God, you had me scared there for a second." Kaoru said relieved. "If you were going to have fake blood in the game you should've warned us."
"But this isn't-"
"Wow I have to say that you're a really great actor Hikaru." Haruhi complemented as a small smile touched her lips. "If I didn't know that this was a game I would've definitely believed that something was wrong."
"Yeah," Kaoru agreed, "I knew you were good but I didn't even know that you were-"
"It's not a game!" Both of their smiles fell as they saw Hikaru grip his hair and whispered loud enough for them to hear. "It's not a game. It's not a fucking game."
Kaoru began to grow concerned by how his brother was acting, now starting to realize that this actually might not be fake, but the blood…
"Hikaru," He began to reach out towards his brother, "are you ok-"
"Don't touch me!" Hikaru yelled as he slapped Kaoru's arm away.
Kaoru looked shocked by his brother hitting him then looked at his arm that Hikaru slapped and saw that there was blood on the sleeve of his white suit. His own blood grew cold when he saw that the blood was a dark red color, almost brown as a tiny bit dried on his sleeve. Fake blood doesn't change color. This was real blood. He looked back over at Hikaru and saw that he was crying, which he didn't notice before.
"Hikaru what happened?" He walked closer to his brother who was trembling. "What's going on?"
"Tono...he's...I…"
"What about Tono?" Hikaru didn't answer and just stared at Kaoru petrified. Kaoru grabbed his brother's shoulders, causing him to flinch. "Hikaru what's going on?"
"To-Tono, I…"
"Hikaru what did you do?"
Hikaru looked into his brother's eyes, tears traveling down from under his mask. He's never seen his brother this way before and it terrified him.
"Hikaru," He repeated as he slightly shook him by the shoulders, "what did you do?"
"Tono…" More tears began to run down his face as he began to cry even harder. "I hurt him…"
Kaoru just stayed silent, not knowing how to react. Hikaru hurt Tono...and he's covered in blood. So that must mean...the blood on Hikaru's hands and his own jacket was...Tono's…
Haruhi looked at both of them confused, not hearing what Hikaru just confessed. "Wait, what about Tamaki senpai? Is this still part of the game?"
"Where is he?" Kaoru asked, ignoring Haruhi's question.
"Th-The balcony. Fa-Facing the courtyard."
He pointed a shaky hand to the balcony facing them and Kaoru looked towards the direction he was pointing at, and just barely he thought he could make out a figure leaning against the railing. He grew terrified and quickly grabbed his brother's wrist.
"Come on, let's go to him."
Hikaru just nodded and Kaoru began dragging him back towards the Central Banquet Hall.
"Where are you guys going?" Haruhi shouted after them.
Kaoru looked over his shoulder at her as he continued running. "Haruhi stay there! I'll try to come back as soon as possible if everything is alright!"
"Wait, what's going on?"
"Just stay there!" Kaoru repeated, not waiting for Haruhi to respond as he continued to run towards the building.
His mind was racing. What could Hikaru have done to make him get that bloody? Was it by accident or on purpose? But by the way Hikaru was acting it seemed like he didn't want this to happen so it had to be an accident, right?
They both ran into the Central Hall, ignoring the curious stares and whispers they got from guests as they ran past them and ran up the stairs. As they got closer to the balcony and the door was in their sight Kaoru started to feel sick. He knew he wasn't ready to see what awaited him out there, but he never would've imagined it to be anything like this.
As Kaoru opened the door to the balcony he immediately grew horrified at what he saw. Tamaki was sitting down as he leaned against the railing of the balcony, his upper torso covered in blood that soaked through his white suit and a small trail of blood dripped down his lip. A bloody hand print was on his left cheek, which Kaoru suspected was from his brother...and there was a big kitchen knife piercing his chest.
"Hikaru," Kaoru said horrified, breaking the silence, "what the fuck did you do?"
"I-I don't know." Hikaru stuttered out. "I-I don't remember stabbing him. I don't remember anything about this whole fucking party besides getting ready!"
Kaoru looked over at him. "You don't remember anything?"
Hikaru shook his head and before Kaoru could say anything else Tamaki let out a weak cough immediately drawing Kaoru's attention.
"Tono!" He ran over to Tamaki's body and knelt down in front of him. "Thank God you're still alive."
Tamaki slightly opened his eyes and slowly lifted his head to look at him. "Ka...Kaoru..?"
"Shh, try not to talk Tono. Save your strength."
Kaoru heard his brother groan behind him. He turned to look at him and saw him pacing. His bloody hands clenching his hair.
"I'm going to jail. I'm going to fucking jail." He cried.
Kaoru glared at him. "Tono has a knife in his chest and you're freaking out about is going to jail?!"
"Don't yell at me!" Hikaru shouted back, leaning his back up against a pillar. "I'm freaking out. I don't know what happened. All I know is that I stabbed him but I don't remember it." He slid to the ground and brought his knees to his chest as he began sobbing into his hands.
Kaoru's expression softened. He was furious at his brother beyond belief for what he had done, but seeing how he was acting right now and the fact that he didn't remember anything about the whole party beyond getting ready Kaoru thought that maybe there was something wrong with him.
"Did you call an ambulance at least?"
Hikaru nodded, not looking up from his hands. "And I told them everything."
"How long ago was that?"
"About ten minutes ago."
Kaoru bit his lip as he looked back over at Tamaki, who was fighting to stay awake. The ambulance probably wouldn't be here for another twenty minutes. He didn't know what to do, he's never been in a situation like this before. He could call Kyoya for help but he didn't want him exploding on Hikaru who was already a wreck. He could call someone else that he knew. He might not be a doctor but he knew how to take care of serious wounds, but probably not this serious.
Kaoru took his phone out of his pocket and unlocked it. "I'm calling Mori senpai."
Hikaru didn't say anything as Kaoru found Mori's contact and called him. After a few long rings Mori picked up the phone.
"Yes Kaoru?" He answered.
"Mori senpai there's an emergency. We need you on the second floor balcony facing the courtyard."
"What's going on?"
"Someone got seriously hurt," he looked over at Tamaki, "and they're bleeding really badly."
"Ok, I'll be there as fast as I can and get a first aid kit."
'Like that could do anything.' Kaoru thought. "Alright, see you soon."
Kaoru hung up the phone and pocketed it before facing back towards Tamaki. "Alright Tono, Mori senpai is on his way and the ambulance should be here very soon." Tamaki mumbled a reply and Kaoru looked towards Hikaru. "Did you hear that Hikaru?"
Hikaru just let out a shaky breath as he used his suit sleeve to wipe tears away as more came, ignoring Kaoru's question. Kaoru made his way over and grabbed his trembling twin's chin, forcing him to look at him.
"Hey, everything is going to be alright." He reassured. "Mori senpai can most likely suppress the bleeding until the paramedics arrive. So Tono is going to be fine." Kaoru said, trying to stay positive for his brother, but he actually wasn't sure that Tamaki might make it by how much blood he already lost. He could feel his own eyes began to burn with tears but he held them back so he could remain strong for his twin who was having a huge mental breakdown. "After Tono gets patched up at the hospital we can decide what we're going to do, alright?"
Hikaru just stared into his brother's eyes as he continued to sob. Even though what Hikaru did was unforgivable Kaoru couldn't help but feel sorry for him. They were both great actors and could easily switch emotion if they wanted to, but the fear and sadness in his eyes were real. Not even the best actor could recreate how he was feeling.
"I'm going to jail." Hikaru whispered in a terrified breath. "I'm going to jail."
Kaoru just looked at his brother with morose eyes, not denying what he was saying. He knew it was definite that Hikaru was going to jail, there was no denying it. He tried to murder someone and even if he didn't remember doing it they wouldn't take that as an excuse.
Kaoru let one tear fall as he let go of his twin's face who went back into the same position as before Kaoru came over.
"Haruhi's going to hate me…" He mumbled into his hands.
Kaoru's eyebrows forwarded as a thought came into his mind, could it be…?
"Hikaru, do you think you stabbed Tono out of jealousy," he asked, "because he's officially dating Haruhi?"
Hikaru looked back up at his brother with an unreadable expression. "I-I couldn't have. I'm over Haruhi. I let my feelings go for her so she could be with Tono."
Kaoru knew that was a lie. Hikaru wasn't even close to being over Haruhi and by the way he's been acting since the day she confessed to Tamaki he wasn't going to be over her anytime soon. Could jealousy really be powerful enough to drive someone to murder? But if it was the reason why couldn't he remember anything from the party? Was it bad that all Kaoru wanted to do was Hikaru? To try and calm him down. It pained him to see him this way and he knew that if Hikaru wasn't covered in blood he would've definitely hugged him.
Hikaru put his hands back in his hair and began rocking back and forth and began mumbling things under his breath that Kaoru couldn't quite make out. There had to be something wrong with him by how he was acting. Yes anybody would be freaking out in his situation but there was something different about how Hikaru was acting, he just couldn't put his finger on it.
"Kaoru?" Mori's voice called out down the hall.
Kaoru looked over towards the glass door of the balcony. Mori was close, which brought Kaoru some relief by how quick he came. He looked back over to Hikaru who was still mumbling to himself.
"Hey, Mori senpai is here. I'm going to go get him so he can help Tono, alright?"
Hikaru didn't respond as he continued mumbling. Kaoru expression grew sad as he watched his brother and he just wanted to stay by him but he knew he needed to get Mori. He got up and ran over to the door before opening it. Immediately he saw Mori jogging down the hall with his partner for the game behind him, who was Kanoya.
"They're on the balcony, right?" Mori asked as he jogged up to Kaoru.
"Yeah they are, but," he pointed at Kanoya, "she has to stay outside."
Kanoya just blinked in confusion. "Why, what's going on?"
"Nothing," Kaoru lied, "someone just got hurt and is bleeding. We don't want you to see it Miss Kanoya."
"O-Ok…"
"Just go back down and talk with some of the other guests until we're done. Then Mori will meet up with you after everything is alright."
Kanoya nodded and looked over at Mori before turning to leave. Kaoru looked back over at Mori who had a medium sized first aid kit under his arm.
"Uh Mori, I just want to prepare you that it's really bad out there and please try not to be that mad at Hikaru."
"Hikaru? What did he do?"
Kaoru bit his lip before opening the door the rest of the way and immediately Mori's usual calm expression turned mortified at what he saw before him, almost dropping the first aid kit.
"What the hell happened?!" He asked as he ran over to Tamaki and knelt down in front of him.
Kaoru closed the door before answering. "I'm not sure. All I know is that...Hikaru stabbed him…"
"Hikaru stabbed him..?"
Mori's attention drew over to Hikaru, who was still sitting up against the pillar, rocking back and forth as he was mumbling to himself.
"Hikaru what did you do?!" He barked.
Hikaru's grip tightened on his hair as tears began trailing down his face again. "I don't know." He mumbled as he began to sob again. "I don't know."
"Mori I know what he did was beyond forgivable but I think there's something seriously wrong with him." Kaoru said as he kept his back on the door. "He says he doesn't remember anything after the point of getting ready then the next thing he knew he stabbed Tono." He looked over at his brother sadly. "I don't even think he remembers coming up with the game."
"He doesn't remember?" Kaoru shook his head and Mori turned his attention back to Tamaki. "We can deal with Hikaru later. We need to focus getting Tamaki's bleeding to slow down."
Kaoru nodded and made his way over to Mori and knelt down beside him as Mori opened up the first aid kit to get some supplies.
"Do you think he's going to make it?" Kaoru whispered, so Hikaru wouldn't hear him.
"I'm...I'm not sure…" Mori quietly answered as he got out some tape and wound pads. "He's probably lost about two to three pints of blood by how pale his skin looks."
Kaoru looked at Tono skin. Mori was right, his skin was almost a ghostly white as if he was witnessing the life leaving his body.
"Shit…" He cursed.
"However, it looks like the bleeding might've slowed down since the beginning. The best option to do right now is to take out the knife and patched up the wound as best as we can."
"But won't that make the bleeding worse?" Kaoru asked. "Why don't we just leave it in until the paramedics arrive?"
"Because," Mori began as he put on some latex gloves, "when the paramedics arrive he might've lost too much blood to survive because the wound was open, but if we patch it up so the bleeding will be a lot less he has a bigger chance of survival." He handed Kaoru a pair of gloves along with the wound pads. "But I'll need your help."
"But-But I've never done anything like this before."
"Just follow my instructions carefully and everything will be fine."
Kaoru gulped before taking the gloves and nodding. "Alright…"
After he put on the gloves they both rolled up their sleeves. Mori unbuttoned Tamaki's suit jacket and shirt before grabbing a hold of the knife that was in Tamaki's chest.
"Kaoru, when I pull out the knife immediately put the pad I gave you on the wound and apply pressure. Got it?" Kaoru nodded and Mori grip tightened on the knife handle. "This is going to hurt Tamaki."
Mori carefully removed the knife from Tamaki's chest, causing him to let out a loud pain filled grunt. When the knife was out of Tamaki's chest Kaoru immediately put the pad on the wound and applied pressure as Mori taped up the wound.
"Ok, we'll have to lie him down so he won't get hurt any further if he falls over or won't freak out if he sees the wound."
Kaoru nodded and helped Mori lay Tamaki on his back and Mori applied pressure on the wound again once he was on the floor so the wound will bleed less.
"Is...Is he alright..?"
They both turned their attention over to Hikaru, who has stopped mumbling to himself and rocking back and forth and was now looking over at them with a concerned expression.
Kaoru plastered on a fake smile. "Yeah, he's going to be fine. Don't worry about it."
Hikaru just stared at them silently. Kaoru didn't know if Hikaru believed him by the expression he was giving them, but Kaoru knew that if he told Hikaru the truth he would probably have another breakdown.
"Kaoru," Mori said, drawing back Kaoru's attention, "go clean Hikaru up before the blood on him dries any further."
"But what about Tono?"
"Don't worry, I got him. Go help your brother."
Kaoru nodded and took off his gloves before making his way over to Hikaru. He grabbed his wrist, causing Hikaru to curiously look up at him. "Come on, we're going to get you cleaned up, alright?"
He helped his brother up and led him towards the door. They walked into the hall when he saw no one was in sight then made their way to the bathroom. Hikaru was silent the whole way. Just the sound of their footfall filled the silent hallway. At least Hikaru stopped crying and was now calm but Kaoru was afraid that if he said the wrong thing his brother would break down again. So he decided to stay silent as well.
When they got to the bathroom Kaoru quickly checked to make sure no one was in there before he brought in Hikaru. He grabbed a bunch of paper towels and put some soap on them before soaking them in the water from the faucet. He then grabbed one of Hikaru's hands and began washing the blood off it. The blood was mostly dry but it was coming off pretty easily if he applied enough pressure.
They both remained silent for a few minutes as Kaoru washed off the blood. Usually silence between them was rarely ever awkward but given the circumstance that they were in he felt extremely uncomfortable. He really did want to say something but didn't know what to say so he decided to let Hikaru start a conversation if he wanted to, but he highly doubted that his brother would.
Kaoru finished the one hand the best he could and switched to the other hand. He would occasionally look up at Hikaru, seeing that he was looking at his hand with no expression as Kaoru wiped the blood off.
When the towel was covered in blood he threw it in the pile of dirty paper towels and grabbed a clean one from the other pile then resumed cleaning.
"I'm sorry…" Kaoru looked up at his brother and saw that he was crying again. "I'm really sorry…"
"Hey," Kaoru said calmly, "calm down. I don't want you to have another melt down. I know you're sorry."
He finished cleaning his brother's hands and grabbed a new towel to clean his face with. He removed his brother's mask and saw his full expression. Seeing the mixture of sadness and terror in his twin's eyes made his chest hurt. He was trying his best to be mad at him but he just couldn't bring himself to. He let out a sad breath through his nose as he began wiping the blood and dried tears from Hikaru's face.
"I'm scared…" He whispered.
"I know Hikaru. I am too, but we'll make it through this." Kaoru said as he finished wiping off the blood.
"I'm not afraid of what's going to happen to me…" Kaoru looked into his brother's eyes, seeing as they began to produce more tears. "I'm afraid of myself…"
Kaoru's expression immediately fell when he heard those words come out of Hikaru's mouth. "Hikaru…"
After trying to stay strong for his brother he finally couldn't hold back any longer and let his tears fall. He didn't care anymore if he got more blood on himself as he engulfed his twin into a hug. It took a moment but Hikaru wrapped his shaky arms around Kaoru and soon began sobbing.
Kaoru knew right then and there that it wasn't his brother who stabbed Tamaki. He didn't know what was going on with him but he knew Hikaru wasn't a bad person.
Kaoru separated from him but kept his hands on his shoulders. "Like I told you we'll get through this. After we sort every-"
Two loud piercing screams came from the hallway, cutting Kaoru off. They both looked towards the door and Kaoru grew nervous.
"Oh no…"
"I don't feel so well…"
He looked back towards his twin and saw that he was suddenly pale, as if he was going to be sick at any moment.
"Ok, you stay here while I figure out what's going on. Just promise me you won't leave." Hikaru nodded. "I'll be back as soon as I can."
Hikaru nodded again and Kaoru patted his brother's chest before leaving the bathroom. He looked down the hall where he saw Kanoya and another female guest looking through the glass door to the balcony where Tamaki and Mori were.
"Shit!" Kaoru cursed as he began running towards them. "I thought I told you to wait downstairs Miss Kanoya?!"
The two girls looked over at Kaoru petrified.
"Wha-What happened to Tamaki?!" Kanoya screamed.
"There was an incident. We already called an ambulance. They'll be on here soon."
"An incident?!" The other girl screamed. "He's been stabbed! We saw the bloody knife! How could him being stabbed be an incident?!"
Kaoru didn't know what to say. He could try to convince them that it was part of the game but once the ambulance came they would realize it was real. He didn't want to tell them the truth because they would know Hikaru was the person who stabbed Tamaki and he didn't want any more pressure on Hikaru who was already in a horrible mindset right now.
"I-I…"
"What's going on here?"
Kaoru felt his body grow cold when he heard their voice and turned around to see Kyoya and Honey walking towards them.
"Kyoya senapi everything is-"
"It's Tamaki!" Kanoya interrupted.
"He's been stabbed!"
Everyone remained silent as Kyoya and Honey tried to process everything.
"Is...Is this part of the game?" Honey asked. "Was Tama-chan the king and the knight got him?"
"No!" The other girl screamed. "He's really been stabbed. There's a bloody knife and everything!"
Kyoya's eyes looked from the girls over to Kaoru with a nervous expression. "Kaoru is this true?" Kaoru remained silent, not knowing what to say but as Kyoya's eyes traveled to the dry blood on Kaoru's left sleeve he got his answer. He looked back towards the girls. "Where is he?!"
They both pointed over towards the balcony and Kyoya and Honey ran over towards the door and opened it. They both grew horrified at what they saw.
"Tama-chan!" Honey cried as he ran over to Tamaki's body.
"What the fuck happened?!" Kyoya roared furiously. He looked over at Mori, who was still tending to Tamaki's wound. "Mori do you know who did this?!"
Mori looked over at him then at Kaoru, who was by the door. He shook his head at Mori, begging him not to say anything because he knew how Kyoya would react, but Kaoru knew this was hard on Mori. Tamaki and Hikaru were both of his friends, but one of his friends tried to kill the other and Kaoru knew Mori would most likely tell the truth.
"It was Hikaru." Mori answered, giving Kaoru an apologetic look. "He's the one who stabbed Tamaki."
Kaoru looked over at Kyoya and saw an expression he's never seen before. Kyoya's eyes were full of a fiery rage that looked like he could kill Hikaru at that moment.
"How…" He clenched his jaw and fists as he began to grow furious. "How could that fucking bastard do this?! After everything Tamaki has done for him!" His furious glare shot over to Kaoru, who flinched. "Where the hell is your brother?!"
"I-I don't know." Kaoru lied. "I haven't seen him since the start of the game."
"Then why do you have blood on your suit?"
"Because I was helping Mori senpai patch up Tono. I was the one who found him."
Kyoya growled before facing towards the door. "Tachibana!" Kyoya's three main body guards suddenly appeared by the door. "Search around the whole school for Hikaru! Then bring that bastard downstairs. I want everyone to know what he did!"
The guards nodded then took off down the hall to search for Hikaru. Kyoya then looked over towards the remaining club members. "Everyone but Mori, get all the guest from the party to go downstairs, you got that?!"
Kaoru and Honey both nodded and Kyoya left with Hunny following him. Kaoru watched as they left and let out a sad sigh.
'I'm sorry Hikaru.'
Hikaru
I heaved over the toilet as the content of my stomach emptied itself. I coughed as I wiped the side of my mouth with my trembling hand. I hated vomiting, I would much rather do other things then sit in front of the toilet and spill out everything that was in my stomach, but right now I couldn't help it. All the food I had eaten today was now most likely out of my body because of my horrible anxiety I was having right now. I knew what was going to happen to me and it terrified me, but what terrified me the most was myself.
I couldn't believe I did something like this, and for what? I had no personal gain from doing this. So why would I do something horrible like this?
'It's because you love Haruhi and couldn't bear to see her with another man.'
I looked up from my arm that was laying over the toilet seat and turned towards the stall door. Was Kaoru back? I didn't hear the door open and the bathroom was quiet. So if it wasn't Kaoru then who was it?
I groaned and put my head in my hands as I felt a piercing headache start to form. I must've thrown up way too much and my mind was starting to act weird. I've thrown up four times since Kaoru has left. I should probably go get some water because I was most likely dehydrated but I didn't really feel like I had the strength to get up. I flushed the toilet and slowly crawled my way back over to the wall so I leaning against it. I looked up and closed my eyes. My body felt hot and I could feel my whole body sweat. I just wanted to go home and go to bed, wrapping the covers around me even though I was hot...but I knew that wasn't going to happen.
I groaned again and placed my head back in my hands as I began to feel sick again. Tears began to burn in my eyes. My life was changed forever. Even if I somehow got out of going to jail everyone is going to know I was the one who stabbed Tamaki...and his life was probably going to change too. He's most likely not going to trust anyone after this because a person he thought was a friend tried to kill him. He'll probably distance himself from everyone besides Haruhi because he'll probably only trust her.
And Kaoru...I definitely ruined his life. He's going to be known for having the twin that tried to kill someone and people might think he's just like me, when he's the complete opposite…
The door to the bathroom opened and I looked towards the stall door. It must've been Kaoru who finally came back from investigating what the screaming was about. I was about to call out to him and tell him I was in the handicap stall but stayed silent when I heard three different pairs of footsteps enter the bathroom.
"His mask is on the sink counter."
"And there's bloody paper towels in the trash can that he probably used to try and get the blood off of him."
"They're still wet so he wasn't here that long ago."
My eyes widened in terror, they were Kyoya's bodyguards. That meant he knew that I stabbed Tamaki and was looking for me. Did Kaoru tell him? No he couldn't have, but if he didn't tell him who did? Also if Kyoya knew how many other people did? What if Haruhi knew?!
I quietly moved to the corner of the stall as quickly as I could. I brought my knees to my chest and put my fingers in my dark hair as I tried to get myself as small I could and not freak out at the same time.
"He can't be too far." The guard that sounded like Tachibana said. "Let's scope out this bathroom to see if we can find any more clues."
"No, no, no." I whispered under my breath quietly. "Please just go away."
The sound of one doors being slammed open caused me to flinch. They were searching the stalls! I began to cry again and tried to make myself smaller in the corner as they opened more stalls, coming up to mine.
"Please just go away." I whispered a cry. "Please just go away."
They finally reached my stall door and tried to open the door, but it was locked. I stared at the door terrified as I trembled in the corner. One of the guards knocked on the door.
"Is someone in there?"
I remained silent. I knew if I said anything they would recognize my voice. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't sneak under the stall to another one because they'll most likely see me crawl through. I was trapped with nowhere to go.
"If you don't answer in the next five seconds we're breaking down the door. One."
I gulped as he began counting down. This was it, they were going to find me.
"Two."
I looked around the stall to see if there was any place I could use to escape. There was a small window that I could probably squeeze through, but it was too high to reach and we were on the second floor so I would have trouble getting down.
"Three."
There was nothing I could do. I was trapped. The only exit was blocked.
"Four."
My trembling grew worse as more tears fell. I covered my eyes as I tried my hardest not to hyperventilate so they wouldn't be able to hear me.
"Five."
"It's occupied!" I screamed, instantly regretting it.
Fuck, it was out of instinct. Now they definitely knew I was in here. I didn't have enough time to change my voice. I took in a shaky breath as I waited for the door to slam open...but it didn't.
I looked up from my hands and to the stall door. Did...Did they leave? The bathroom was completely silent now, the only thing I could hear was my breathing. I let out a small sigh of relief and leaned back on the wall. I tried to calm myself down but before I could even start the door was kicked open, causing me to shriek as I saw the lock fly off and hit the wall. The three guards entered the stall I was in and immediately looked at me.
Tachibana clicked his ear piece. "We found him Master Kyoya. We're bring him over to you now."
I looked at them horrified and began scooting as close to the corner as I could. "St-Stay away from me!"
They ignored me and began to march towards me. My body then felt like it had a mind of its own and when they tried to grab me I dodge their grasp before quickly crawling my way to the crack that lead to the other stall. As I was halfway in the other stall I felt someone grab a hold of my leg and tried to drag me back to the stall I was in. I turned my torso and caught onto the side of the stall, using almost all my strength to fight off whoever had a hold of my leg.
"I said stay away from me!"
I kicked out my free leg, hitting the person in the face, causing them to let out a pain filled grunt and let go of me. I crawled through the stalls as fast as I could, trying to reach the last stall closest to the door. Aijima opened stall door that I was crawling through but before he could even reach out to grab me I grabbed the stall door and smacked it against his face with force, causing him to fall back.
As I finally reached the end of the last stall I quickly got to my feet and began running towards the door, but before I could reach the handle I felt someone's arm tug around my neck, putting me in a headlock. I clawed at their arms as they tried to drag me backwards but it did nothing. I gasp as his grip tightened around me and I glared up at him. Then in one swift movement I launched up my arm and elbowed him in the jaw, causing us to both fall down.
I quickly got out of his grip and tried to get back on my feet but Tachibana grabbed both of my ankles, causing me to fall flat on my stomach. He then put a knee on my back and held both my arms behind my back.
"Quick," he panted out, "someone give me something to restrain him!"
I growled and began struggling to get out of his grip, but to no avail. I heard the sound of a belt being taken off and not long after that I felt the tough, smooth leather wrap around my wrists.
"Let me go!" I barked and continued to struggle, trying to make it more difficult for him to restrain me.
Tachibana finished fastening the belt around me wrist and looked over at the other two guards. "Are you two ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine." Aijima answered. "I'll probably just have a bruise, but I think Hotta's nose is broken. What about you?"
"I just got a chipped tooth, that's all."
I looked over my shoulder at them and instantly grew horrified at what I saw.
Tachibana had blood trailing down from his mouth while there was a red mark forming on the left side of his lower jaw. Aijima's glasses lenses were cracked and he had a huge red mark on his forehead where I hit him with the door. Then Hotta had it worse. His nose was crooked in an odd angle and was bleeding badly, it was definitely broken….I did that to them…? But how? I don't even remember…
I suddenly felt Tachibana lift me up and I was put over his shoulder, holding my legs down to his chest so I couldn't kick.
He faced back to the other guards once he had me properly secured. "Let's go."
The two other guards nodded and followed Tachibana as he left the bathroom with me. My breathing began to grow heavier as we left the bathroom and made our way out into the hallway. I watched the tile move as I stared down at the floor, feeling my anxiety grow rapidly.
"Where are you taking me?" I finally managed to ask.
"To master Kyoya." Aijima answered.
I soon was able to hear muffled chatter and my eyes widened when I saw light began to reflect off the tile. They were taking me downstairs where the guests were. No, no, no I couldn't face a crowd of people after what I've done. Kyoya probably told them what happened! I began to struggle against Tachibana's grip, causing him to grow irritated.
"Stop moving around." He ordered with a growl.
"Let me go!" I screamed, not caring that my voice echoed down the hall. I began sobbing again as I continued to struggle, trying to get free from my restraints, but I was futile in getting out of them. I soon stopped struggling and my sobs began to grow harder.
"Please don't take me down there." I begged, which only hit deaf ears.
When I knew that I wasn't getting anywhere I just let my head fall in defeat. Watching the tears that fell down my face hit the floor. I could hear the sound of confused chatter grow louder and when the light fully consumed me it immediately stopped. As we descended the stairs I looked at the guests through the railing. This was really happening. I was being confronted for a crime I clearly did but didn't remember doing in front of all of our guests.
We finally made it to the dance floor and Kyoya's guards walked to the middle of the room and stopped.
"Put him down." I heard Kyoya order.
I was flung from Tachibana's should and onto the floor with some force that told me they didn't care if I got hurt.
"It was a pain in the ass to get him here." Tachibana said as he and Aijima grabbed my arms to pull me up so I was sitting upright on my knees. "He put up quite a fight that chipped my tooth and broke Aijima's glasses and Hotta's nose." He motioned his head over to Hotta who had a bloodied white handkerchief covering his nose.
I heard a low growl escape from Kyoya's lips and I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said I could feel the aura around Kyoya darken.
"Look up at me." He hissed, his words like venom.
I began to tremble again as everyone's eyes were on me. I couldn't look up at him. I was too afraid to. I just wanted to disappear right that instant, but I knew that was impossible.
"Tachibana, make him look up at me."
I felt someone grab my hair, causing me to cry out on pain as they forced me to look up at Kyoya. The expression he was giving me I've never seen before. His glare was dark and full of resentment. He looked like he was ready to kill me which made my trembling even worse.
Kyoya's glare hardened as he stared into my terrified hazel eyes. "Would you like to explain to everyone here Hikaru what you did to your 'dear' friend Tamaki?" He asked, his teeth gritting at the word "friend".
I heard the guest began murmuring to themselves about what could have happened between Tamaki and me. My breathing began to get labored and I couldn't talk. I looked over at Kaoru, who was standing a few feet behind Kyoya. He had a doleful look on his face and I could tell it pained him to see me in this situation. He noticed the expression I was giving him, begging him for help.
"Kyoya," he said quietly, drawing Kyoya's attention, "we shouldn't do this here. Let's just have the club members go somewhere private and discuss this."
"You want to discuss this in private?!" Kyoya yelled. "So you don't want the guest to know that your brother stabbed Tamaki in the chest because you feel bad for him?!"
As the words "stabbed Tamaki in the chest" left Kyoya's mouth the whole room grew quiet. Everyone was staring at me again and I could feel myself began to sweat.
"Is...Is this part of the game?" A guest asked.
"I don't know, is it Hikaru?" Kyoya's glare hardened. "Because I'm sure Tamaki wouldn't have appreciated having your suit, face, and hands stained in his blood, and don't bother lying and say that it's fake. Fake blood doesn't turn brown when it dries."
"So does that really mean…"
"Hikaru tried to kill Tamaki..?"
"Why did you do it?" Kyoya grabbed the collar of my suit so my face was up to his, our noses almost touching. I could see the tears peeking out of the corner of his eyes. "Why would you stab Tamaki?!"
"I-I…" I tried to stutter out, but it was hard to find my voice. "I don't know…"
"You don't know?" His grip tightened on my collar. "You don't know?!"
His fist collided with my cheek, which caused me to fall on my side and the crowd to gasp.
"Kyoya stop it!" Kaoru yelled, which Kyoya just ignored. He tried running over to us but Kyoya's guards held him back.
I felt anger began to fill my whole body as the stinging started to set in from the cheek he punched. My breathing grew into almost pants as I clenched my fists, trying to control my anger. I knew that I shouldn't be angry about him after what I did, but I couldn't help it. It felt as if something wanted to come out and attack him, but I held it back the best I could. I felt Kyoya grab my collar again and lifted me back up to look back at him. I wasn't afraid of him anymore. I was just furious.
"Would you now like to us why you stabbed Tamaki?"
"I told you I don't fucking know!" I hissed through clenched teeth.
Kyoya growled and punched me again, causing blood splatter on the floor next to me. The taste of metal hit my mouth as I felt blood travel down my lip, slowly dripping on the floor.
"Kyoya!" Kaoru screamed. "Stop!"
Kyoya continued to ignore Kaoru's pleas and grabbed my face so I could look up at him again. "My family police force will deal with you when they get here."
"I already called the police." I growled as I hardened my glare at him. "So there's no point in you doing that."
"I find that very hard to believe for someone who attempted to murder someone."
I spit in his face. "Fuck you."
Kyoya grew livid and wiped the bloody spit from his face. He raised his fist to hit me again but halted when he saw red and blue lights appear outside from the widow.
"I told you." I smirked.
Kyoya just continued to glare at me before letting go of me, letting me fall to the ground. He then faced his security guards, who were still holding back Kaoru.
"Take the belt off his wrists. I want to see the police put that bastard in handcuffs."
Tachibana nodded and released Kaoru before making his way over to me. He forced me up. He began to unwrap the belt from my wrists and I stared at the police lights outside the window. This was it, I was going to jail. There was no point in fighting because they outnumbered me greatly so there was no way of avoiding getting arrested. But shouldn't I be feeling nervous? I was about to get arrested at any moment but I felt nothing.
When he got the belt off I rubbed my wrists, enjoying the temporary relief. I could hear the footsteps of all the officers making their way to us. I knew that I should've felt at least sad or scared that they were coming but I still felt nothing. As if I was just an emotionless shell. Kaoru looked more nervous about what was about to happen than I was.
The doors were kicked open and a group of police officers armed with guns entered the room. They immediately spotted my blood stained clothes and pointed their guns at me.
"Get on the ground now!"
I just stared at them with no emotion as they came closer to me. I knew I should listen to their directions but a part of me didn't want to and kept me standing.
"We said get on the ground!" The same officer yelled.
"Hikaru," Kaoru said, drawing my attention. His voice was calming and brought me somewhat back from wherever emotionless hole I was in. He was no longer being held by Kyoya's guards and just looked at me sadly, "just do as they say."
I just stared at him for a few seconds before giving him a nod. I then slowly got on the floor and laid on my stomach as they began to approach me. I felt them grab my arms and put them behind my back.
"Hikaru Hitachiin you are under arrest for attempted murder." The officer said as he took out a pair of handcuffs. "You have the right to remain silent. If you do say anything what you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult with a lawyer and have that lawyer present during any questionings. If you cannot afford a lawyer one will be appointed for you if you desire."
I look over at Kaoru as the officer put the handcuffs around my wrists. Even though Kyoya's guards did let him go they still stood in front of him just in case he would try to run over to me, but I knew he was smarter than that. He just stared back at me with sad eyes as he watched me get arrested.
The officer forced me up and began leading me out of the building. As I was about halfway to the door I spotted Haruhi in crowd of guest staring at me in complete horror. I felt my eyes burn with tears and I quickly faced away from her. I couldn't bear to look at her after what I did to the person she loved…
A bright light flashed, hurting my eyes. I blinked a bit, trying to get my eyes to refocus.
"Turn." The woman officer ordered.
I let out a huff as I turned to the right and she took another photo of me.
"Now turn to the other side."
I did as she said and turned to my left and she took another picture.
"You can face forward."
I faced towards the officer and she began writing something down in a notebook before opening a drawer and grabbing something. She then made her way over to me and gave me a set of clothes that I had to change into which were an orange jumpsuit with the word juvenile on the back and a white t-shirt for underneath.
"Come on, we're going get you cleaned before we put you in your cell."
She began leading me out of the room and towards the showers. It was late at night so all the prisoners were in their cells. For some reason I didn't feel afraid as I walked by them. They paid no attention to me, even in my outlandish clothing, but even though they paid no attention to me I thought I definitely would've been afraid. It was like all my emotions were turned off. Maybe I was just exhausted?
We finally got to the showers and the police officer stopped outside.
"You have about ten minutes to shower so you can get everything off of you. Then you'll change into your new clothes and hand me your old ones before I lead you to you cell. Got that?" I nodded. "Alright, I'll be out here if you need anything. Go take your shower."
I walked into the showers and was surprised to see that there were shower curtains that divided the stalls, which I was really glad about. I entered the first stall that was closest to me and shut the curtain. I stripped off my dark red suit and pushed it outside the curtain next to the dry clothes. I then turned on the water, letting the freezing cold water hit me. I didn't bother waiting to see if the water would warm up and just stared down at the floor, seeing the blood that rinsed off my body puddle on the floor before going down the drain. Blood...that was Tono's blood washing off my body. For what felt like hours of feeling nothing I felt warm stream of tears trail down my face again, mixing with the water from the shower. I still couldn't believe that I did something like this to Tono. After everything he helped me with I thanked him by stabbing him in the chest...but why? Kaoru brought up that maybe it was because I was still in love with Haruhi, but that couldn't be. I was over her. I let her go so she could confess to Tamaki.
Yes it did hurt to know that she wouldn't see me anything more than a friend...it killed me, but her happiness was more important than mine. That's why I let her go, but then why did I…
'You still love her and can't stand to see her with someone else.'
I looked up at the sound of the voice. Was there someone else in here? But officer said that all the other inmates were in their cells and if there was someone else in here how would they have known what I was thinking?
"Five more minutes." The female officer informed, breaking me out of my thoughts.
I let out a sigh and began washing my hair and body, getting the rest of the blood off of me the best I could in the next five minutes. When time was up I turned off the water and used the towel that was given to me to dry off before grabbing the pair of dry clothes and put them on. I zipped up the orange jumpsuit, leaving the collar unzipped, exposing the white shirt. As I rolled up the sleeves of the jumpsuit to my elbows I frowned. The jumpsuit was uncomfortable and felt gross knowing that other inmates wore this before me. It felt like I was wearing clothes that someone left on the side of the road, but I guess they're not supposed to give you designer clothes in jail, which I was used to.
I moved the curtain before grabbing my bloody suit and making my way over to the female officer. She took the clothes from me then began leading me towards my cell. Unlike before I was now nervous for some reason. It felt like as if my emotions just suddenly turned back on. I could feel myself began to tremble a bit again as I passed the other inmates cells and now it felt like all their eyes were on me. I tried my best to just look in front of me and not at the cells I was passing by.
Finally after what felt like miles of walking we made it to my cell. The officer unlocked the door and opened it. I let out a small sigh before entering the cell, hearing the door close as I entered. The cell was small, about not even the size of my bathroom back at home. The walls were made of what looked like concrete while the door was only bars. There was one bed that was a flimsy mattress and had a really thin pillow and a green blanket that looked like it wouldn't be able keep me warm. To my surprise there was a small TV in the corner of the cell and a radio in the other corner next to my bed. I guess I got one of the good cells.
As I heard the footfall of the officer leaving I turned and walked over to the door, grabbing the bars.
"Wait." I called out, making her stop.
She turned to me with an expression that told me she was a little annoyed that I stopped her. "Yes?"
"I...I know this might sound like a somewhat stupid request but...if you get any word about his condition...can you tell me..?"
The officer continued to stare at me. I could tell she was a little surprised by my request to know the condition of the person I tried to kill by her expression. However it soon went back to neutral as she turned away from me and began walking away.
"We'll see."
Kaoru
It's been three hours since they arrived at the hospital. Tamaki was rushed immediately into emergency surgery for the stab wound. Kyoya sent the guests home and promised to give them all flowers for an apology for what happened tonight (that Kaoru's family had to pay for) and also promised to tell them the condition of Tamaki after he was out of surgery. Kyoya tried to get Haruhi to go home as well but she refused. She demanded to come to make sure that her boyfriend was all right.
They were all still in their suits and Haruhi was still in her dress. They had no time to change so Kaoru and Mori still had Tamaki's blood on them. The Host Club all sat together in seats next to each other in the waiting room, except for Kaoru. He was about an aisle away from the rest of them. He tried sitting with them when they first arrived but the look Kyoya gave him indicated that he didn't want him there. He was probably livid that Kaoru tried to stop him from hurting Hikaru and felt betrayed, but it wasn't like that.
Kaoru knew his brother and could tell that something was wrong with him and with Kyouya punching Hikaru wasn't going to help with anything, just make things worse. He saw his brother's eyes turned dark, as if they were a different person's eyes, just like at the amusement park. He's also seen that happen before when they were younger, but never really thought of anything about it.
Kaoru sighed and began fiddling with the checkered sash that was draped around his shoulder and wrapped around his lower torso. His eyes traveled over towards the other club members who were engaging in a conversation to help keep their nerves down. He knew that Kyoya didn't want him over there, but it hurt him that the other club members didn't try to at least include him. He was just as nervous as the rest of them and wanted to talk to someone to try and calm his nerves, but the club members wouldn't even look his way. Were they all mad at him? He couldn't control what Hikaru did. Hell, Hikaru probably couldn't control what he did, but that didn't mean he had to be excluded from the group in a situation like this.
Were they no longer his friends? Without them and Hikaru he had no one. The school was probably going to hate him for what his brother did and because they were identical twins they'll probably think he'll do the same thing. Which was far from the truth.
Kyoya must've felt his stare and looked towards him and glared, which Kaoru just responded by looking away. He just wanted to get out of the room and get some fresh air but feared that if he left the doctors would come out and tell them about Tamaki. He might then just walk over to the vending machine to get some water so he would be in the same room, but away from the group for a couple minutes.
When he decided that was the best plan he stood up and turned towards the direction of where the vending machines were, but before he could began walking one of the doctors who performed Tamaki's surgery walked out into the hall. They all got out of their seats and ran over to the doctor with Kaoru closely behind them.
"How is he?" Kyoya asked. "Is he going to make a full recovery?"
The doctor looked at them with a doleful expression that caused Kaoru's gut to churn in a horrible way.
"I'm sorry." The doctor said sadly. "We tried everything we could to save your friend but he lost too much blood. We couldn't revive him. He didn't make it."
The new hit everyone a couple seconds after the words left the doctors mouth. Tamaki, one of his best friends, who help him and his brother out of a dark hole that they were in was dead...because his brother killed him…
Tears began to fall down his face, along with the other club members.
'Tono, I'm so sorry…'
Anne-Sophie
Anne-Sophie let out a sigh as she entered her house covered in mud with a bucket of onions and her dog Hachibei following at her heels. She closed the door with her foot before making her way to the kitchen.
"What should we have for dinner Hachibei?" Anne-Sophie asked as she put the basket on the table. "I'm thinking Ratatouille. What do you think?" Hachibei barked and wagged her tail causing Anne-Sophie to laugh. "Ratatouille it is then."
She began to get the ingredients for her meal out and place them on the counter so they were within arms reach when she began to cook, but as she was about to get out her pots and pans her landline rang. She stared at it for a few seconds, contemplating is she wanted to answer it or not then decided that it was the best option to do so. She put down the pot she was holding and made her way over to the landline before answering it.
"Hello, de Grantaine household."
"Anne…" It was the voice of her husband. She would usually be happy to hear his voice, but right now his voice sounded sad.
"Yuzure is everything alright? Why do you sound like you've been crying?"
"Honey, something horrible happened."
It sounded like he was trying to hold back tears, but was failing miserably as his voice was cracking on the other end of the phone.
"What happened?"
"Tamaki, he…"
She could feel her stomach drop by the mention of their son's name. What could've happened to him? Was he in an accident? Was he hurt?
"What about Tamaki?"
"He's...He's…"
"What happened to our son Yuzuru?!"
"He's gone…" Yuzuru finally answered as he began to sob. "He was stabbed and passed away about thirty minutes ago during surgery…"
As Anne-Sophie heard those words she immediately dropped the phone, letting it hit the wall. She could feel her heart shatter into a million pieces. Her son, that she hasn't seen in about three years since recently was gone. She would never get to see her baby boy ever again. Never see him get married and dance with him at his wedding. He'll never have children which he always dreamed about. He was never going to experience those precious events.
Her legs collapsed from underneath her and she fell to the floor, not hearing Yuzuru calling for her through the phone. Hachibei could tell something was wrong and nuzzled Anne-Sophie's arm and whimpered when she saw her owner began to cry. She then got into her owner's lap and Anne-Sophie wrapped her arms around her dog and began sobbing about her only son. Who she'll never be able to see again.
Hikaru
I was laying in my bed and had my arm over my eyes to try and block out the lights as I tried to fall asleep. The bed was thin and uncomfortable, I knew that if I ever did fall asleep I would wake up with a crick in my neck and back. The pillow did nothing for support and was like sleeping on cardboard. The blanket felt scratchy and didn't help me feel warm at all in the cold prison cell.
I groaned as slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes as they readjusted to the light. I looked at the clock on the wall outside across my cell. I've been trying to go sleep for two hours and it was just barely past midnight. When do they turn off the lights in the cells? How am I supposed to sleep with a bright light hitting my face?
When I heard footsteps of a guard walk past my cell I got out of my bed and walked over to the door, grabbing the bars. I was about to call out to him and ask when are they going to turn off the lights when I saw two officers walking towards my cell. One of them was the female officer from before and the other was a random male officer. Were they here to tell me about Tamaki?
"How is he?" I asked as they made it to my cell. "Is he going to be ok?"
"Tamaki Suoh passed away." The female officer answered bluntly. "He died in surgery about an hour ago."
I just stared at her horrified as I began to feel sick. But...But Kaoru and Mori said he was going to be alright while they were patching him up. Why...Why would they lie to me? I just looked down at the floor, my grip tightening on the cell bars. I could only hear muffled voices as the officers continued talking to me, then after a few minutes they left.
Tears began streaming down my face for what felt like the umpteenth time that day as my knees gave out from under me. I killed Tono. I murdered him. One of my best friends were gone because I killed him. I hated myself. How could I do something like this to him? I would do anything to bring him back.
...But yet, why was I also happy he was gone?
Hey guys I hope that you enjoyed the first chapter of the Asylum Re-Write. I know this chapter is really long, but I didn't know where to stop. I changed a lot of things from the previous version. One was that it doesn't fully follow it's Prequel Disturbia all the way because I felt like it would've gone way too fast like it did when I first wrote this story.
Another thing I changed was Hikaru and Kaoru's relationship. In the previous version of this I made Kaoru resent Hikaru, which I grew not to like. I believe that even though Kaoru would be furious at what Hikaru did, he would sympathize his brother if he thought something was truly wrong with him and try to protect him, even though it may be wrong (Like when he lied to Kyoya about not knowing where Hikaru was).
I also didn't like how I immediately threw out what was wrong with Hikaru (if you already read the old version of this or the sequel Bad Blood you already know what's wrong with him, but if you're a new reader I'm not going to spoil it). I want to build up everything that's going on with Hikaru then finally let out what's wrong with him, but I'll give some hints along the way like I did in this chapter.
Also yes this story tells different POVs, unlike the other version. I thought it would be more interesting to see how Hikaru murdering Tamaki affects different people like Kaoru, Haruhi and the other members.
And yes this story will mostly take place in a mental hospital, again unlike the old version, but Hikaru wouldn't be thrown in a mental hospital right away. In real life he would've been thrown in jail until his court hearing which would be in about a few days (About four days for murder. I looked it up, I did a lot of research for this chapter and upcoming ones)
But anyway enough of me talking. Thank you guys for reading the first chapter. I'm sorry if you guys liked the other version of this story but I started hating it and believe this one will be a lot better. I will admit that even though I hated the old version of this it still was sad to get rid of all the chapters, but it'll be worth it (and I still have them on google docs so if I want to make myself cringe I can just read that.) I would love to hear what you guys think of the first chapter so far and I'll try to update this story along with my two other stories that I'm updating at this time. I hope you guys enjoy this story, please Favorite, Follow, and Review.-HH1957
