Atonement
Atonement
Iko's P.O.V. (from "Repentance"), as told to Seven of Nine.

I would have liked to learn to dream,
To love like others have the chance,
To conquer guilt for what I've done
When I could not control my hands,
These bloody hands. My foolish plea
Can never, e'er atonement see.

I would have liked to call you friend,
To share with you the evening sky,
I would have liked to hold your hand,
To tell you it would be all right,
That even every crimson stain
Is washed away when hearts are changed.

But I can't purify the past;
Your hope for me has come too late.
"Vekto Valek K'Vadim" --
The victim holds my final fate.
I cannot -- won't -- contest my guilt.
Some bridges just cannot be built.

I never will atone for you.
Perhaps you can bring peace for me
By living as you should, and so
Bring honor to my memory.
Be brave and look me in the eye.
In you, I'll never truly die.
