You jumped off your broom that you'd been soaring through the sky on, landed lightly on the ground, crouching, before you stood up fully. You set your broom lightly against the tree, making sure it would not fall, before sitting down in the shade beneath its sprawling branches. It was a hot, sunny, clear day. The sky was cloudless and the air was crisp. Despite this, you had no company. There were students everywhere, enjoying the pleasant Saturday afternoon, but almost avoiding you. A group of girls passed by, looking at you and whispering then giggling loudly. Many of them had made passes at you; all had been turned down. They soon learned not to try.

Except the new girl.

You were the Slytherin Prince. The house Prefect, and already, only in your 5th year, everyone knew you were going to be the Head Boy. Not only this, but you were powerful as well. Some people said you were the most powerful wizard since Merlin or any of the founders – that is, until Harry came along. But that's another story, isn't it? And you were smart, too. Cunning – the hat put you in Slytherin for good reason. Charismatic, too. People just... flocked to you. However, despite all this... you were lonely. You kept yourself apart – above – all those others. You could see in them a desire not for you – but for what you had. They wanted to share in your power. You had no real friends.

People knew this. They didn't believe in you, or they chose not too. They didn't like the Slytherin Prince – he'll be evil. He's a Slytherin. And there were also those jealous of your power and influence. They talked about you, you know. They doubted that you had any friends – that you'd ever have any friends. They said you'd never let anybody in. And they were right, you know. You never did. Nobody.

Except the new girl.

Last time I saw you, you were laughing. You and her were standing together – she was right next to you. I had a feeling that you two would stay together like that, too. You'd be together forever. I could tell, from that look in your eyes, that she was your only one. She was the only one that mattered. There could never be anybody else. That love, pure and raw that shone in your eyes – I've seen it matched in so few others. I could see there was nobody else.

Except the new girl.

I saw you smile, knew you just didn't care. You'd finally found her. Finally had her. Someone to hold, someone to love. The one who didn't care about your wealth or power. She was you're whole world. She was everything to you. I remember that day – you were so happy. You told her you loved her – you'd always love her. Nobody else, it would always be just her. I saw you smile, and it seems right that you're finally with her. You've finally found the one for you. There was nobody.

Except the new girl.

I sighed, and closed my eyes. You looked like you had so long ago in that faded picture that I keep. The only joy you had ever had had been lost to you long ago when they killed her – that's why you went mad, that was when you became who you were feared as. Only I know the true reason why you did it, you know. But I had to help Harry kill you. I know you did it for her – you only wanted a way to bring her back, and to revenge her death from those muggles. But I'm not sad you're gone, because I know you're finally with her. And that's all you really wanted. All you ever needed was her love – and now you're returned to her once more. You have all you needed.

Just the new girl.
