But anyway, on to the redo of this chapter
Chapter 1: A Little Intell
Hiccup POV
They said I was useless, that I wasn't supposed to be born. Always laughing at me... My dad kept on telling me that I'm a failure, that I"M the reason mom left. When I started getting close to the edge and started hurting myself, apparently that's when the embarrassment, disappointment, everything that they said was wrong with me finally was put in a downpour. They all stopped talking to me or listening, like they ever did. My father disowned me and flew me to a mental health center in a town on the other side of America called Burgess.
It's better at the center though, they don't really call it a center, they call it home. Everyone is like a gigantic family, everyone works with each other and respects each other, crying when someone leaves or welcoming someone new. Even though most people have left, they still visit and it's nice. The owner, North, he's a tall guy with a long white beard, dark eyebrows, blue eyes, a red noose, and a Russian accent. He accepted me when I first walked in the building, I went quiet before I left Alaska and he never pushed me to speak. His wife Tiana, who wants us to call her Tooth, is a dentist at a place across time, but she stops by everyday to give a motherly aspect to the atmosphere of the building. Bunnymund, or Bunny, is an Australian guy with tattoos who wants all of us to have hope that it will all work out, he allows us to try and have a new beginning. Sandy, is a short man with beach blonde hair and is also mute, watches after the children at night and makes sure everyone is sleeping good dreams instead of nightmares. I've suffered from insomnia so he allows me to stay up and read the books that Bunny and North bring me, as well as working on designs for inventions that I want to create someday.
I love it here, though... I wish that I could feel comfortable enough to talk again like I used to, but I don't think it's ever going to happen, Bunny always says to have hope... so I guess I'll try.
North says that he has someone that he wants me to meet, I hope it will go ok...
Light shown through by the time I put yet another book down, finished, I sighed and thought that it was about time to get up. I took the sheets off of my skinny body, looking at the wall clock to see that it's after 7:30...
'7:30...oh no...'
I started to panic, I was going to be late meeting North in his office, scratch that, I am late meeting North in his office. Forgetting that I had just got out of bed I quickly ran through my already opened door and down the hallway to North's office.
I almost ran right into North upon reaching his door, but I ended up running into a tall boy who accidentally stepped in the way. I crashed into him, sending us both to the ground, me landing on top of him, my head on his chest. I breathed in and suddenly I could feel a winter breeze, but it was the middle of fall. I didn't understand it until I felt a hand on my head.
"Are you ok there?"
I looked up to the boy I was laying on and my green eyes met a brilliant blue, they were almost like North's but... it held more mischief, his hair was the purest white, he had pale skin, he wore a blue sweatshirt and brown pants. I quickly got up and mouthed 'sorry', he got up as well and smiled warmly at me. I blushed and looked somewhat to North and then to the ground.
North chuckled and patted my head. "Hiccup, this is Jack, my son, Jack, this is Hiccup. The boy I mentioned to you."
I looked to Jack, wondering how much he knows about me, I have nothing against North telling anyone about myself, but for some reason I was scared on how Jack would react to it.
Jack looked at me for a long minute before sticking his hand out to me. "Hey Hiccup."
I stared at his hand before looking at him and giving him one of my 'famous crooked smiles' as Tooth says, and shook his hand. He nodded and let my hand go.
North smiled warmly. " Now Hiccup, Jack here is going to be your companion for a while, we're trying something with Burgess High since a lot of people want to go into the community and volunteer, Jack is going to be here to see if this opportunity for teenagers and college students will be a good idea. Is that alright?"
I nodded. Bunny, Tooth, Sandy, and North couldn't get to everyone at the same time, maybe this will work.
"Great!" North shouted excitedly. "Jack knows how to get around here, so Hiccup, if you just want to show him to your room, you could show him your designs?"
I perked up, and getting a bit too overexcited, I grabbed Jack's hand and started to walk over to my room.
"And maybe you can help him with his homework, da?" North shouted to us.
"Dad!" I couldn't help but smile and also feel a bit sad.
I slowed down to a walk, still holding onto to Jack's hand, I didn't know why this was affecting me so greatly when it never had before.
I could hear the worry in Jack's voice. "Hey, are you ok Hiccup?"
I nodded my head and continued walking in the direction of my room, he didn't push for an answer which helped me calm down a bit because I felt like crying. When we got into my room I sat on my bed and Jack seemed to have seen my designs on my desk and started to look through them, his eyes getting more astonished with every new creation he saw.
"These are so cool! You need to make these."
I took the dry erase board from my bedside table and the marker by my pillow and start to write. 'North said that he would get me some supplies, but I had to get better and feel more comfortable talking again.'
"My dad is usually a nice guy, until you make him angry. Then it's like a side of him you've never seen before. But anyway, what if I helped you out with that?"
'To talk again?'
He nodded and sat next to me on my bed. " You have a talent Hiccup, you need to share it with the world."
I looked down. 'My er…. Father, Stoic, said that inviting is for the weak bodied….'
Jack looked angry for some reason after he read what I wrote, he shook his head. "That's not true. We have an engineer class at my school, but some students who show a higher aptitude for it work on moving objects and stuff. Like all of your designs."
'Really?'
He nodded, then laid onto his back. "But, if you get better, you'll have to go back to Alaska, huh?"
I pulled my knees to my chest. 'No, Stoic disowned me from being his son. And I have no idea where my mom is.'
"Stoic seems like an old fart. Do you remember anything about your mom?"
'Only a tune. Whenever I do get sleep, I can hear it in my dreams.'
¨That isn't a lot to go on, but it is something. Whenever you're comfortable, do you think that you could hum it for me?¨
´Maybe...´
Jack didn't push with anything that i gave a no or and I don't know to, which was really nice. He never seemed like the people back in Alaska, he seemed more understanding. I wonder if he got that from North and Tooth.
We spent the day between talking about my inventions and playing video games, but then Jack had the idea to mess with Bunny. I wish that I didn't agree to it, but it seemed so fun, so I followed Jack to where Bunny was reading on one of the sofas. Jack thought of everything, he got the ice cubes from the kitchen and made sure to keep them cool. We got behind Bunny, Jack placed the cube down the australian´s shirt and tapped my hand, i quickly played the video on his phone of a greyhound barking. Bunny jumped so high and shouted so loud, the smile on Jack's face was so big, his eyes were so bright.
¨JACK!¨ Bunny had seen Jack behind the sofa.
Seeing that as a cue for us to leave, the white haired boy grabbed my hand and pulled me behind him.
¨Wait, Hiccup? What are yo- No, Jack! Bring him back!¨
I couldn't hear Bunny, I wanted to, but the hand grasping onto my own was so cold and so nice, I couldn´t pay attention anywhere else. I felt like I was in a whole other world.
We managed to lose Bunny and get back to North´s office.
¨Today was great,¨ Jack said.
I nodded excitedly.
Jack looked through the window in North's door. "Crap, mom said to meet her at the front at 6." He turned to me. "Dad said that he wanted to talk to you after I left. But don't worry, I promise that I'll be back tomorrow."
He gave me a hug goodbye and started to run towards the entrance. I walked into North's office and he had a dry erase board ready for me.
"So", he had a huge smile on his face, "how was today."
I sat down and quickly wrote.
'Fantastic'
