A/N: Okay, apologies to my followers, because this is nothing like my usual stuff. I'm undertaking a right of passage, as it were, by contributing to the Teachers' Lounge compendium of Snapoetry. The theory behind this trope is that teenaged Severus must have been in the habit of pouring his little emo heart into pages upon pages of bad poetry.

So my (reluctant) submission imagines what Snape must have felt on his first night at Hogwarts, after watching Lily sorted into Gryffindor while he joined Slytherin.

Fated, were we

two shining pearls

among oysters

brought together

by a tide of destiny

Your perfect gleam

ever shining

making me shine

ever brighter

for being within your light

Strung together

we should have been

a perfect pair

not separate

as cruel fate has made us

I vow this night

to you my love

no sordid hat

will come between

My lovely Lily and me

I did warn you :P
