A smile graces his lips for the first time since Lizzie has seen him. "It may be hard for you to imagine but I once had a relatively normal life. Bills to pay, playdates, family, some friends." He pauses for a moment, his voice deepening. "People to care about. Lost all that
"Lost how?" Liz interrupts abruptly. Red doesn't seem perturbed by this, he is used to her round a bout way of showing concern to get answers. Straining another smile he continues.
"In Mexico there are these fish that have colonized the fresh water caves along Sierra Delarbre. They were lost. They found themselves living in complete darkness. But they didn't die instead they thrived, they adapted. They lost their pigmentation, their sight. Eventually even their eyes. With survival they became hideous."
"I've rarely thought about what I once, was." Softly, deftly now. "But I wonder, if a ray of light were to make it into the cave, would I be able to see it, feel it, would I gravitate to its warmth? For once Red seems lost. "And if I did would I become less hideous? I didn't want you to come here, follow me here. Because the truth is, if I don't stop Braxton what he'll discover is that he can't get the fulcrum without you."
He doesn't know the answer to his questions, which in any other situation would have been laughable at best. Raymond Reddington is confused and sees himself as less than human, a man in its most primal definition driven only by his need to keep her safe.
The pressure starts rising and the alarm goes off, Red struggling to control it. Liz sliding the tabs trying to catch his movements as she reels from this new found information.
"What does that mean without me?" Liz asks, raising her voice so that he can hear her.
Gunshots fire at them as Liz ducks, barely missing stray bullets. Red quickly takes her place to fire his pistol at Braxton's men. Pulling the levers in his place before she takes her own glock and starts firing back.
"Get outta here!" Red yells. Liz backs up, still shooting as Red quickly pushes up the switch as the room explodes seconds later as they are both flung around with debris.
Coughing as she struggles to stand, Liz calls for Red to no avail. Seeing him hidden beneath a piece of roof she crawls to him. No heartbeat her hands tell her, no sign of life. Immediately her body reacts to the situation and her training kicks in. Pumping his chest with her hands, "breathe!" Her hands go to his head, the blood pouring from the top of his right ear staining her hands as she feels for a breath or a slight sign of a pulse. "Breathe!"
"Breathe you son of a bitch!" Liz yells at him, pounding on his chest in her failed attempt to jumpstart his heart. Voices call in the distance, "in the boiler room!" Liz pushes the debris back on his chest and runs straight through the men, effectively getting herself captured, hoping that they find and revive him. "Take her to Braxton."

Desmond rushes to Reddington, trying to wake him as he pushes the debris off his chest. Pushing his body in a sitting position Red tries to break free, momentarily forgetting where he was and what transpired just minutes ago. Never realizing that Lizzie had just revived him. But that non realization isn't what makes her first on his mind, he's not entirely sure what is but she's there. Always first and foremost.
"Where is she? Where is she?" Red asks desperately.
"Braxton's men took her." Desmond says. Red goes into action, hoping beyond hope that he will get to her in time.

One thing is for certain as he loads his shotgun in the meeting room. Luther Braxton will pay for his crimes, not just as a Blacklister but for oh so much more. One large Mexican fish has finally felt the sunlight after years and years of its deprivation, and he will gravitate to its warmth and comfort, he be damned if he never feels it again. For Raymond Reddington has found his sun.
