A/N- sort of drabble-y, but oh well. Also, there are spoilers for Season 5 of Angel, none really for Meet Joe Black...
"Well, if you wanna know my opinion, tacos are much better than peanut butter..."
The Texan informed Death, currently in the form of a handsome blonde man. He looked like one of those fashion models you drool on in magazines, except for his eyes, which could almost be described as empty. Fred knew better, though. She had spent several weeks with Joe and although at first he seemed cold and distant, he had human-like emotions. Because she had been ripped out of her body unnaturally, the charming Miss. Fred Burkle was stuck in a pseudo halfway point between the mortal world and afterlife. She only had Death to comfort her, probably because he had nothing better to do. Joe seemed awful lonely, though, she thought sometimes that maybe she was sent here to give him company. Maybe that was her purpose?
The two were currently in a heated discussion about human foods (For her sake, Joe supplied human-like "necessities" such as food, although she didn't really need them). She had noticed he seemed to enjoy peanut butter quite a bit, and was currently trying to convince him that tacos were far better.
"I will have to try these tacos" He responded with a grin, picking up one of the famous tacos Miss Burkle had praised so highly and taking a bite out of it.
"So, whaddya think?" She prodded
"Good, but peanut butter is much better" He informed her after finishing off his taco.
"You're crazy!" She responded. She didn't care if Joe was –Death-, peanut butter so did not beat tacos and that was that!
"I beg your pardon, miss- but I am not the crazy one here" He joked.
Fred had taught Joe to joke. He didn't seem to really get the concept of humor before she came along. She got the impression he had dealt with humans extensively before...he had mentioned a vacation but he had seemed tense about the whole thing. She didn't want to prod, but the idea of Death taking a vacation interested her. Sometimes she noticed he seemed to look at her in a way reminiscent to the way Gunn and Wes looked at her. He seemed to have a sort of longing for her. Her thoughts on that were that it wasn't her, but the fact that she was the only woman he really came into contact with these days (he wasn't quite sure what to do with her because she really wasn't truly dead an all.) Sometimes she wondered if he had ever loved, he seemed to feel human emotions but she often wondered if he had ever expressed them in a relationship before....Sometimes she wondered if her interest in him was purely platonic. Could one fall in love with death? Perhaps she was, but she knew she couldn't stay here forever. So, Fred did what she had been doing for a while- laughing and existing here with Joe, pretending she slowly wasn't falling head over heels for Death.
"Are you implying that I'm crazy, sir?" She laughed, although her heart wasn't in it.
"Yes, that is what I implied, although it is not what I truly meant" He responded honestly, sensing her sudden lack of humor.
"Maybe you're right Joe, maybe I am crazy" Crazy for falling in love with someone she could never be with.........
